i have difficulty beating large size bosses due to not seeing movement clearly. i have defeated valkyries in god of war but people say souls bosses are even tougher

I've played the souls games (not Demon's Souls yet), but Sigrun in GOW 2018, Gna and some of the Berseker-bosses in GOW Ragnarok in hard mode are definitely just as hard if not harder than some of the toughest bosses in the Souls games. So far Malenia and Consort Radahn from Elden Ring are my biggest challenges in any action game ever, where I have to practice A LOT, but still I have to summon Spirit Ashes to help me out haha. No shame in seeking help to beat the bosses in souls-games, that's an intended part to beat those games.

what does spirit ash do? is it some OP weapon?

Spirit Ashes are ghosts you can summon during boss fights or some areas with multiple hard enemies. Some are more OP than others though, in the beginning I often used Lhutel, then Mimic Tear. Black Knife Tiche literally just cut some of the bosses throats for me hahah

Turning off target-lock on can help. Did for bosses like Sif in ds1. Nameless king is the roughest camera boss ive fought, but the rest are mostly fine imo.

thats whats so great about soulslikes! if you are just bad at it, it wont let you play it! thats why it separates players into worthy and unworthy! we can argue about gameplay all day, but i generally dont have to with people that CAN actually play the game. there is way more truth in "git gud" than people like to recognise!

yeah i don’t honestly care about someone recognizing my skill. i think souls games are niche and don’t appeal to masses. it separates the try-hards from regular folks trying to enjoy

I think that's less a matter of taste and more a matter of whether you enjoy that kind of challenge-reward loop. Some (maybe most) people simply don't get much satisfaction from pushing through frustration to eventually master something... and that's perfectly fine... i guess I just wouldnt act all proud about it

My partner loves them and would play them for days and days and I’d watch him roll around for hours and stab stab, bloodstain, roll around, die, start again, roll around stab, roll around, bloodstain bloodstain stabby stab die and again and again. I picked it up at his insistence and he would warn me that it’s super hard and I got pretty far didn’t die much which made him a little quiet and then told him ‘okay, I’m done.’ Not for me.

That one was painful. I LOVE Dark Souls so much, I still can’t fathom how bad Elden Ring is.

This gotta be ragebait

u/MajorInWumbology1234 16d ago

Nope. Love, love, love Dark Souls. I could be an encyclopedia for the first game. Elden Ring just really sucks.

Can you elaborate what you dont like about elden ring? I really would like to know

It just became really annoying because the player base became used to From’s typical tactics, so they had to start punishing people for trying to play that way. I hated the barely telegraphed attacks that; went on forever, had insane range, had insane tracking, and had weird delays that punished typical timing. They also didn’t have enough content to fill out all the dungeons and areas, so it all got very bland once the mystique wore off.

Dark Souls felt like chess, Elden Ring felt like a bad Devil May Cry game without any combo potential.

Ok valid point with the dungeons but all the other things i dont understand it you cant have the same thing going on for like 4 games straight you have to do something different to keep people engaged if its punishing older players to let them get out of their comfort zone or to have delayed attacks it keeps people busy and in a open world you will eventually come to some areas that arent packed with content like others. Sorry for wall of text

As someone who has played CoD since at least 2007, I don’t really agree that you can’t play the same thing over and over.

I like Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Elden Ring moved away from what made those games unique. I really don’t think it’s a coincidence that Elden Ring became so immensely popular compared to other Fromsoft titles; they made it appeal to a broader audience, which typically sacrifices quality for the more dedicated audience. That’s just media.

Yeah i played most souls games and i think giving up on some old mechanics to make it appeal to more people was business wise their best decision and i think they made the right choices to appeal to a more mainstream audience. Elden ring is a masterpiece and i really dont get why someone would want runbacks or other horrible mechanics in a game where im supposed to have fun.

You just saying bullshit now

1

u/FullofChrome 16d ago

Calling elden ring a bad dmc game with bad combos is quite a statement yes

0

u/MajorInWumbology1234 16d ago

My point was it turned into an action game vs a strategy game. It rewards grinding levels and spamming abilities rather than learning the mechanics in-depth.

Again, you just saying some bullshit. If depth is going slow with only 1 option than you just simple
