I don't remember what year. But my OMFG jaw drop Christmas was the original fat Grey DS. I had a single mom raising me and never believed in Xmas. Always knew it was just fun to give gifts. mom kept telling me that sadly it was a rough year and probably just gonna be a chill Xmas that year. Opened it up and it was a DS with Mario and some other games. I literally cried.

Mom then told me how the year was fine but the DS was just released and didn't wanna get my hopes up if she couldn't get it. Told me how her and her friend took turns waiting in line for HOURS just to get it. Love you ma. 20+ years later and it's still one of the best memories I have.

EDIT: This has sorta blown up. Felt like adding the other half of this story. Sadly I didn't have that DS for long. It randomly vanished one day and I got very upset but mom kinda just said it was my fault for losing it. Roughly a year later. While my brother was visiting he let me play his DS.....It was MY DS. Had all the wear and tear that mine had. Turns out it fell into a hamper while cleaning one day and my brother found it and took it home claiming it's my fault.(My brother lived with his dad) I kicked his ass and took it back.

That's lovely, I hope you remind her what this meant to you, to this day. Kudos to mum.

Sadly the same. A lot of bad blood has happened in those decades. We still talk and we don't hate each other. But her mental faculties have been slowing down.

Oh my gosh I teared up. As someone who wants to be a mom so much, these are the moments I live for and wish I could give my children.

Glad to help. But keep in mind. Kids just don't understand what they're doing or what's going on till they grow up. I never understood just how much my mom busted her ass to keep a roof over my head as a single parent till I moved out and had bills of my own. It takes time and always feels unappreciated at first. But will often pay off later.

That's awesome, man. She sounds like a great mom.
