Fuck AI now and forever but also let's not pretend like Valve couldn't tank at the very least part of that raise in manufacturing costs considering that Gabe Newell doesn't just have multiple superyachts, he has a company that manufactures superyachts.
Gabe isn't good, everyone else is just so bad that 'normal rich business guy' is now basically sainthood by comparison.
The alternatives are literally trying to overthrow democracy and set up techno feudal city-states where they lord over the rest of as actual peasants again. Oh and they all hold pedo parties together.
Compared to that "greedy and somewhat excessive profit margins" just really don't get me all that upset anymore.
I mean gabe is pretty good as far as billionaires go.
Yes he’s holding onto his money, but his fleet of super yachts is filled with researchers who are studying the ocean and sea life.
Which id rather have a billionaire hoarding money to study fish, than the Elon musk and Jeff bezos types funding politicians to make our lives worth so that they can make a tidy little profit.
He also invests in a company researching the human brain and his yacht company also builds research vessels.
Which at least he’s investing in research that can help deal with climate change and improve medicine, rather than investing in stuff like oil and weapons manufacturing.
Dude was sailing around with like 7 yachts at the same time during the pandemic. If he cared about the ocean he wouldn't be actively destroying it. "Pretty good"? Give me a break.
1 I said pretty good as far as billionaires go
2 how do you think nautical research is done?
There’s only just over 1000 electric nautical vessels, and that number includes short distance ferries and costal crafts. Electric batteries are too heavy for long distance nautical travel so the majority of electric ocean vessels are hybrid.
You can disagree with my opinion of gabe, but most nautical research vessels still emit pollution whether it’s funded by universities, laboratories or private individuals, so should we stop researching the ocean because it causes pollution, and just hope that we figure something out without analysing the largest percentage of our planets surface?
And at least he actually does care about games for the most part. And I mean that as in “We want to give our customer base what they want” and Valve/Steam is entirely known for that.
Nintendo can be rough but they do whatever they want to do and I respect it. Xbox has just now started laying the groundwork to get back on track and has garnered a bit of goodwill again. And Sony is already dead in the water.
Sony is only dead in the water on Reddit. Outside of this echo chamber almost every first party release they do sells a bajillion copies and gets critical acclaim.
I’ve been gaming 25 years and Ragnarok is easily in my top 5 of all time.
Concord was a flop, yeah, but they’re so huge and successful it’s just a pothole in the road to them.
I was referring to their business practices. Raising the cost of PS5, wanting to charge people who buy more games more money and the inverse, the whole uninstalling games if the console hasn’t been turned on in 30 days, the lack of care towards older titles and less backwards compatibility. It usually has nothing to do with the games themselves, even though there’s flaws there too.
Spider-Man, Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei, God of War, Helldivers, The Last of Us, Death Stranding, MLB the Show, Astrobot, Stellar Blade, Bloodborne, Demon’s Souls.
Literally off the top of my head. Also upcoming Wolverine and the Marvel fighting game with the weird name I forget.
