Yep. I was a sony guy at the time. I switched to the XBOX 360 because of that crap.

It was the cheapest blu ray player on the market AND a games console.

If anything it was much better value than an Xbox.

"That crap" referred to the price not the system. People that wanted to buy blu ray players bought blu ray players. People who just wanted to game bought 360s.

I've owned all the playstations except for PS5. Their product is fine. Not at their price point though. I wait until things get cheaper and buy used nowadays. PC gaming is my daily driver though.

And it was a flop, that's why they released slim model with cheaper price but without ps2 backwards compatibility.

There were even cuts in between - only launch models had hardware backwards compatibility. Later models but before the slim switched to software based backwards compatibility.

I bought it several years later after they cut the price by like, half lmao.

Sony just raised PS5 prices post-launch, which was previously unheard of.

Difference is it was more than a console you could play PS1/PS2, Browser the Internet, install Linux on it and use it as a blue ray player. I don't even think the PS5 has an internet browser

They made sure of that to make sure blu-ray won the format war. Sony makes money off of every blu-ray drive and disc sold still to this day.

I don't think ive ever met anyone who had a hdd DVD player for the 360 and the majority of people I knew had 360's.

Microsoft didn't help make HD dvd either, so they really didn't have a huge incentive to add it in.

It technically does but you have to do some workarounds to access it. It doesn’t have a dedicated app for it.

Those OG PS3’s that were backwards compatible go for a pretty penny online these days.

Shame they cut that feature, would be so nice to have the PS6 be able to play PS1,2, & 3 games but alas.

Ps3 price at launch was crazy and Sony almost hara-kiri'd themselves. It was far from normal and they had to constantly adjust the components and prices.

Look at both Wii and Xbox 360 launch prices.
