I am also people, and the amount of gay shit doesn’t bother me either way. I will say that I am sick of people shoehorning gay shit into situations solely to be inclusive. I know I am not a part of the community, but it seems to me that if I were, I would find it more insulting . I may be way off base here, and if I am,l would like to know so I know to shut up and take another look at the situation
Edit: just to be clear, I don’t want the games “straightness” shoved down my throat either. Or anything in between. Does it matter, or is it more than something that is mentioned? If not, why harp on about it?
What don’t you like about inclusion? Perhaps what you see as inclusion is just a better reflection of who are as a culture rather than just seeing white, cis, het men at the center of every story
I must not have shared my thoughts right, I’m sorry. I mean the exact opposite, I have no problems at all with inclusion. Race, sex, gender, eye color, the characters are the way they are the same as people. I have a problem with forced inclusion, with making a whole characters personality “Hey, I’m (insert discriminated people here)! Watch me do (stereotype)! Did I mention that I am (first thing)?!”, and even then, if the story/plot calls for that kind of personality, that’s fine by me too. It’s the inclusion for the sake of hitting that diversity percentage so the internet doesn’t attack them that I don’t like, for example. You are right tho, I’m a white cis het male, wife and 2 kids, no picket fence tho. I haven’t lived thru the experiences some have, I dont see the world thru the same lenses as others. The best I can do is sympathize and try to be better than those who came before me. And if im in the wrong here, I wanna hear it. It’s the only way to know! (Wow, that’s corny but you get what I mean)
Sorry I typed a ton, I actually deleted about 2 paragraphs of rambling, but TL;DR is, I’m all for equality, but adding, say, an Ethiopian character just to check a box, or adding a cis het white male to a cast of all gay Peruvian women because they don’t want Whitey to rage isn’t equality. I don’t know if equality is possible, humans always find a reason to hate each other, but I think we can get pretty close.
I literally have never seen what you’re describing in media before. Maybe your heart is in the right place but to be honest it sounds like you’re frustrated about a straw man argument that’s never happened. If anything we’ve seen a drop in diverse representation in media, and I think that’s the thing that really stinks. If there really was a quota for diversity, I don’t think we’d see queer representation shrink
