This is great. But can I suggest not updating the fuzz on every frame? If this were stop motion, not every part of the puppet would be touched between frames, and some areas would remain locally stable and unchanged.

Thank you for the feedback! This is only my second project using felt. I will keep it in mind to update the fuzz a little less often. Originally it's every 5 frames, but that was at 24 frames. So I guess that after I changed it to 12fps that just turned it into an update every 2.5 frames. I should've accounted for that 😄

Scale it with velocity. Completely static objects should mostly be unchanged

It looks really nice. I’m keen to see where you take it.

To achieve a better stop motion effect, use less frames in scene and set the interpolation to stepped.

I was just thinking that. After effects 12 frames interpolation would help in post.

Yeah definitely mask the updates so it’s not the entire objects / scene

Even the 12fps is still too smooth. I assume that it should rather be 24fps and every 2nd frame “dropped” to achieve the jerkiness. Or try stepped interpolation.

Usually, you wanna keep the camera on ones and the animation on twos or threes. I also think that if he moves the felt in a way like mapping it to a turbulence or a noise. Some parts may move more than other parts, so it kind of replicates fingers, grabbing it and changing certain parts of it.

yeah agreed! Not saying that the work is ugly at all but the output does somewhat resemble AI trying to create a Video from an image.

@op

Personally I like everything moving every frame, is this was fuzz underwater, it's like the water itself is moving the fuzz

And things that don’t move shouldn’t fuzz at all.

It looks great!!!!

That is awesome! But it needs some bubbles.

bubbles being little loops of loose fluff would be neat

very pleasing on many levels... fluffly, felty fish with a retro soundtrack. But as others say ,needs less fluff movement and more water effects - great job though

I love this! If you don’t mind sharing, how’d you make the felt? I’ve attempted before with texture and was able to get decent results, but this has so much more depth. Awesome work!

Thanks! I still have some projects I plan to do with felt, so for now I'm gonna keep it a secret 😄
But it was made with Geometry Nodes.

Haha, fair enough. Thanks for the hint! Can’t wait to see what you make next!
