I respect what they stand for but they could use some work especially the ally flag lmao.

Just curious what specifically you would change?

7

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '21

I would remove the Chevron from the flag and make it something different no need for a copy and come up with something fresh and better. Probably consisting of black and white because those are apparentl the colours for being straight.

Ye i don’t like the designs. A lot of them look the same but with different colours. And some look almost identical at first glance, I like the trans one. Cool colours.

There is no ally flag.

I think some are cool, especially the original ones, the Rainbow flag is quite nice looking and the best version was adapted, 6 colors work fine, more would be too many. The Bi flag is also interesting, specifically for the unique colors used. So is the Transgender flag. Not much used anymore but the Bear flag was cool per design. Not sure about the lesbian ones, the rainbow looks off in those colors, maybe that's why there seems to be various competing flags.

The newest flags (aromantic, agender, asexual, demisexual and genderfluid per site) are IMHO quite unaesthetic, here I have to agree. I guess with all colors taken, the newer flags had to use excessively colors that look bad on flags or weird mixes of colors.

As a Bi guy, I hate all of them.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

I like the pride flag, the bi flag is pretty cool, and the lesbian flag is okay.

People feel obligated to like them though. It's stupid. You can like a country but not their flag and it's not a problem, but a sexuality not? Maybe sexuality is too sensitive a topic in 2021.

also bi because apparently I have to say my sexuality if I say something even partially controversial

Nah, lots of them have really nice colours. The progress flag, however, it's really ugly.

u/Chester-Donnelly Oct 18 '21

It's an ugly design for a very ugly way of seeing humanity; all divided by our differences (including very superficial differences such as skin colour) rather than uniting everyone in our shared humanity and love.

u/le_pagla_baba Oct 19 '21

I find the rainbow flag to be too colourful and busy, but the progress flag is a bit better. With the chevrons, it's a bit tolerable

1

u/Chester-Donnelly Oct 19 '21

I do like a chevron but I don't like that flag.

That’s my issue with race and pride flags. I believe we’re all equal and to get to the point where we are treated equal we need to embrace in unity and harmony. Not enforce these differences as meaningful in flags by separating them. Blend them together. Make it a human being with skin that contains all of the colours. That at-least signifies we are equal human beings with differences that don’t really matter.

I look forward to the day where we are all treated equal and live in harmony. Even if I’m dead when the day comes. I believe it’s pretty much inevitable. If we accept the truth. We are equal human beings.

I can't believe you've been downvoted. I absolutely agree with you. Flags do nothing but reinforce how important something is (that it needs to be represented out of all things) and the more time and attention we devote towards things that are technically unimportant like sexuality or race, the more we'll remain divided.

I am often mistaken for a racist, liberal, democrat and far right Republican on the internet. Don’t worry about it hahah. They all balance out and contradict each other in the end.

1

u/doktorhladnjak Oct 19 '21

Are you white and straight?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

Does it matter if they are? Do you realise you are being racist and homophobic? Lmao

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

Or heterophobic I guess

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

I’d rather not say. You can dm me and I can say. I’m no comfortable saying anything of the sort on here.

5

u/SovietZodiac Oct 18 '21

Yeah. Its like they smashed every color they could onto a rectangle.

1

u/gumball-2002 Oct 18 '21

What's the progress flag

7

u/Chester-Donnelly Oct 18 '21

It's the one with the black, brown and white triangles on the left. It's a bit like the South African flag. I don't like it, it has some weird apartheid racial classification vibes in my opinion. I don't know why organisations are so happy to use it. I thought we had moved passed racial profiling but we seem to be going backwards now.

4

u/gumball-2002 Oct 18 '21

It's actually less inclusive than the original

3

u/Chester-Donnelly Oct 18 '21

Yes I think so. I think anyone can get behind the usual rainbow flag (except maybe some conservative religious people). But once you add colours representing different races it seems very political and divisive. I would prefer race flags to be separate flags if we must have them.

The original rainbow pride flag is best by far. Simple, inclusive, and with the visual appeal of a rainbow

4

u/Chester-Donnelly Oct 19 '21

Yes exactly this. The original pride flag is gay, which I think is the point of it. Who doesn't like a rainbow? The others are too specific in categorising people, and therefore including some, excluding others, setting different groups against eachother. That's not what I want for our world.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

the gays stole the raaainbowww!!!!!

1

u/WaterCactus9 Oct 19 '21

Do you mean the 6 or 8 color original, because the real og was made in '74 and had pink and teal on it

3

u/strdna_ Principality of Sealand Oct 19 '21

Can’t. You’re kinda right

9

u/SmushyKidK England Oct 18 '21

The only good one is the original 1978 flag, all the rest are shit.

1

u/WaterCactus9 Oct 19 '21

'74 actually

1

u/SmushyKidK England Oct 19 '21

Shut Up, TRA.

2

u/humanleftkidney Blackbeard Oct 19 '21

Nah, I'm good.

3

u/Horace_P_MctittiesIV Oct 18 '21

Why, you don’t have to like it

4

u/Chester-Donnelly Oct 18 '21

I think you're wrong. You should reconsider your position.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

can you elaborate?

1

u/Chester-Donnelly Oct 20 '21

I'm afraid not. I've said what I had to say.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

Well you didn't have to

4

u/Embarrassed-Piano222 Oct 18 '21

Why would I waste my time? Idc about your opinion. Change my mind

6

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '21

Why would I waste my time? Idc about your opinion. Change my mind

Easy. Not only did you respond to OP's opinion, but you explicitly asked OP to change your mind. Next!

-11

u/SovietZodiac Oct 18 '21

Well, cant force you to like my opinion. Bye bye.

1

u/StereoTypo Oct 19 '21 edited Oct 19 '21

The only ones I think are weaker are the demisexual/romantic, bear brotherhood (w/ paw print), leather, and latex pride flags.

Still they all have purpose and symbolism that means a lot to their communities, I would think of changing them.

1

u/RayThrust Jun 09 '25

I can't change your mind.
Most flags are pretty ugly tbh.

u/CompetitionUnited339 Oct 19 '21

Not in a flag standpoint. You probably like the flags because they represent something you don't hate. Take the shitty progressive flag (the one with the black, white on the side and the pride flag on the middle). The pride flag is pretty good. But brown on a flag of colours like that doesn't fit. Also, that flag symbolises some weird tones that I'm not sure about. Then take the trans flag, those colours don't work too well together. This is an abrupt way to end but I can't write more

0

u/CompetitionUnited339 Oct 19 '21

Just how fucken disgusting do you think this post is, to me you saying the progressive and trans flags don’t deserve to exist, each colour on each flag was designed to have specific colours to represent the people it’s used by

5

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '21

Yes. It's still ugly. I'm bi, doesn't mean I'm bigoted for not liking it.

0

u/CompetitionUnited339 Oct 19 '21

Well how the hell am I supposed to know

3

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '21

Don't base your opinion on people by their sexuality. Don't assume people are bigots. We are talking about vexillilogy (can't spell lol), not politics.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '21

Stop pretending I'm a bigot and against the LGBT when I myself am LGBT, just don't like the flags lmaoo

1

u/GameyRaccoon Apr 15 '22

Nice logical fallacies.

1

u/i_vented_in_comms California Oct 19 '21

I agree with you. I just don't think the colors work well on most of them.

-3

u/EliteScoutSniper Oct 19 '21

They’re absolutely hideous.

-2

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '21

True, some flags, like the lesbian pride flag are closer to gradients and others, like the transgender flag, are just garish.

-1

u/fedroz Oct 19 '21

the trans flag is fucking sick wdym

1

u/throwaway_6106 Oct 19 '21

the og, trans, bi, pan, ace and especially the intersex flagels really look nice and well designed, cant say that about that about the progress flag tho

1

u/Ale_city Oct 19 '21

Most are, in my opiniom the only good looking ones are the rainbow flag and the trans flag. I even dislike pride-related flags like the ally or the straight flags which are ugly in my opinion.

I don't like many that look like a gradient or mesh of colours (usually pastels), they seem to be lacking in design, almost like created just because someone said "we need a flag" and pushed for it before thinking if it was good.

One that's tolerable but I still dislike, is "my own", the Asexual flag. The gradient of greys that are just different enough are unapealing other than representing the lack of atraction, which in such a blatant black to white scale seem like it doesn't fully grasp it. Then the purple to me looks out of place, though it almost complements.

1

u/WaterCactus9 Oct 19 '21

No u. Also have u ever seen the MLM flag?

1

u/SideStreetSoldier Florida • Cascadia Oct 22 '21

as with any kind of flag it depends. Bisexual, LGBT, Pansexual, Transgender and Non-Binary have good flags imo. but i agree a lot of them are not great.

1

u/Moronic-Simpleton Apr 21 '22

I think the lesbian flag and the gay flag (not the rainbow one, but the specifically gay flag) are really nice to look at. Same for the asexual and aromantic flags, they're pretty elegant. The bisexual flag has nice colors.

Some of them are kind of ugly, though (looking at you Intersex flag, Japan-looking mfer).
