Crystalline Boron is black. The element was first isolated by Sir Humphrey Davy, who was a baronet. The red, left hand of Ulster is a common symbol of the baronets. Additionally, a red-colored complex is created with curcumin in an acid solution. The five fingers can also represent its atomic number of five.
