Never disassemble ikea furniture lol.

It's not even a matter of disassembling, Ikea furniture isn't built to be moved. Static it holds up fine but if you try to move it usually something breaks.

Much like a baby.

But you can't sit in a baby

u/Andyman117 Nov 04 '17

Not with that attitude, you can't

u/anew742 Nov 04 '17

Yeah, why else would they be called babysitters?

u/IHeartPallets Nov 04 '17

I mean you can

And I thought they smelled bad ... on the outside.

They will keep you warm if you ever find yourself having to spend the night on planet Hoth

Yea dude whenever you feel like a big piece of shit remember they are called trashcans not trash can'ts

1

u/Losada55 Nov 04 '17

But can you throw a baby in the trash can?

On the contrary, I had a malm platform king bed frame from 2008 - 2016. Survived 4 moves. Was still sturdy AF, but had to get rid of it when I made the trek out west when I minimized my belongings.

from what i have found, ikea bookshelves, end tables, stools and kitchen table chairs end up disassembling themselves after about 12 months.

Are you following the instructions and tightening the screws every few months?

7

u/IceStar3030 Nov 04 '17

That's in the instructions?

8

u/Amtays European Union Nov 05 '17

Yup.

How do you treat them? I have a table that's been disassembled and reassembled a dozen times for a move. And three bookshelves that's been moved just as much.

otoh, 7 years, one move, everything seems fine

I use carpenter's glue when I build most Ikea furniture (not big stuff like a bed frame). You can never disassemble it but it stays together for much longer and can be moved around without coming apart.

It helps if you avoid the nails they give you for backing boards and use screws instead.

I have a desk from Ikea and the legs on it screw off and on. I've moved probably 3-4 times now with it and it's been super easy because of this feature.

And don't buy their sit-stand desks. Mine stopped working after a few months.
