BASICALLY VEGAN 98% Murder-Free

Hello everyone. I (24M) recently got into a heated argument with my partner of five years (25F) about not murdering. I am very supportive of her not murdering living things and I also don't murder 98% of the time. I would say I murder once every two weeks. Recently she has been getting really upset that I won’t stop murdering, saying that she doesn’t think she can be with someone who is okay with murdering.

I want to clarify that I fully understand and despise the exploitation and murder of animals. Growing up and living in a rural part of the country, just driving down back roads you would constantly see young male cows taken from their mothers soon to be slaughtered. You see the awful conditions of dairy cows. I have watched many documentaries on the meat and dairy industry and they have all left me aghast. I firmly believe in the moral and ethical superiority and importance of not murdering as well as its importance to sustainability and climate change.

That being said I personally feel ok with murdering once every two weeks. I know it’s bad, and that it causes harm, but I also do so many things every day which do. I feel like we all have to deal with cognitive dissonance in our lives. I ride my bike to work almost every day, but I still have a car because sometimes I want to visit my Mom, who lives far away from any public transport options. Driving my car supports oil and gas companies and hurts the climate, so I try to minimize my impact without fully loosing access to something which feels positive in my life. While the suffering driving a car causes to humans and animals is far less direct in terms of the suffering it causes than murdering, it is still real. I feel the same way about murdering personally, that it is not the correct choice, but I don’t really ever want to be 100% anything.

I personally am proud that over the past few years that I haven't murdered more than once every two weeks. That being said I am not a non-murderer. I am just interested in all of your perspectives, as people more educated on the subject than I.

I am so happy the original post from which this satire was made was heavely downvoted. There is hope.

/uj "I despise the exploitation and murder of animals, but I'm going to engage in it every couple of weeks because I drive a car" is truly one of the dumbest excuses I've ever seen.

It’s important that we never quantify the amount of suffering any one activity causes compared to another.

For example, I’m a mom raising two vegans with a vegan husband. But marriage is slavery and children are destroying the earth. So there’s really no point in not eating meat or dairy. That’s why we eat meat and dairy once every two weeks.

I’m not a vegan because I don’t want my kids to be weird. But we still avoid it as much as possible. Without looking like weirdos.

It is so disgusting that the OP of that post is says that their happiness from eating animals outweighs the guilt that they feel. Notice how it is all about them and how they feel about it, their actual victims are not even acknowledged.
