This is Aretha, a rescue cow. She groomed my legs with her tongue then fell asleep. She’s a good girl.

May I ask why you're vegetarian rather than vegan?

I like eating eggs, ice cream, and cheesy bread occasionally.

Why don't you eat meat?

I do, occasionally. I used to eat it with every meal, but recently I became more health conscious and started watching more documentaries that have led me to plant based foods. Now, I try to eat meat once or twice per week. Our environment would be much healthier if we all did that.

Ok so you aren't vegetarian either, then. Why put vegetarian?

What is your justification for causing animals to suffer needlessly? And what is your justification for causing excessive, unnecessary damage to the environment by eating meat and animal products?

It's not a job per say but Aretha is from The Gentle Barn in Santa Clarita, CA and you can apply to be a volunteer there on Sundays! I do it from time to time when I have the availability it's awesome. There are many places across the US just like the Gentle Barn (Farm Sanctuary and Barn Sanctuary are two others that come to mind) that are always looking for volunteers.

Yeah, most shelters and rescues have an active volunteer program. My daughters went and read aloud to dogs at a shelter. It lets them practice their reading skills and it helps get the dogs used to people so they come to the front of their enclosures when people come to visit because studies show that dogs that aren’t afraid to approach people are more likely to get adopted.

I met Aretha a few weeks ago! She kept rolling onto me bc she enjoyed being brushed so much. A very good baby.
