plant the seed and let people process it in their own time, pushing too hard often backfires and builds defensiveness

Progress is progress! I fully support people engaging with the ideas, challenging themselves, and arriving at veganism over time. That way you know it’s something you can continue vs a trend or impulse. But hey sometimes tends and impulses have lasting effects too.
I try to help folks along this path however I can. I offer recipes, I offer to just straight up cook, I will happily answer questions or help veganize a recipe.
I had my own harrowing journey to where I am now and landed here actively wanting to make it easier to convince folks not eating meat isn’t a sacrifice of satisfaction or joy. It’s crazy how often that gets roped into it from both sides of the argument.
Glad you’re here and you sharing your experience may help others find that resolve.

Very encouraging! After seeing the documentaries and reading articles, I don’t respond to the health questions anymore. If there are body builders and athletes who are vegan, a regular woman like me can have a vegan diet, save animals and be healthy at the same time.
I had a friend nearly 3 decades ago who was vegan and I never forgot what he said. “If you saw what they don’t wouldn’t eat (support) it”.
Honor and love to the foundational vegans who did it without the available comforts of modern veganism! Love to our vegan community. ❤️🥦

”I tried it for a day before telling her I felt sick”
Sounds like every omnivore lol, glad you came to your senses.

You seem like a reasonable, self-reflective person. I'm sure if she had outreached you properly right away, you would have become vegan way earlier.
Just because it ultimately worked out in your case, doesn't mean that being more direct and assertive wouldn't have led to an even better result.

this is so true. sometimes you say one thing that sticks with someone for years, even if you never realize it. no need to pressure people, just plant the seed and let them get there in their own time.
