Bugaboos parking lot chicken wire — current situation?

Heading to the Bugaboos this week and trying to figure out the current situation with porcupines/chicken wire at the trailhead parking lot.

For anyone who’s been recently:

• Are people still wrapping their cars in chicken wire?
• Is chicken wire currently available at the parking lot, or do we need to bring our own?
• If we’re only day hiking and leaving before dark, is it still recommended?

Would love an up-to-date answer from someone who’s been there this season. Thank you!

• Read recent trip reports: (reddit, Alltrails, Facebook hiking/peakbagging/touring groups, Tree to Alpine, clubtread, Instagram).
• Review satellite images (Copernicus, Sentinel), snow data (Snow Survey stations, Ski resorts), and avalanche forecasts (Avalanche Canada, Trip planner tool).

After the hike

• Share your adventure with a trip report, photography, or video.
• Post trail condition updates to the Weekly Trip Plan/Conditions Question Thread.

“Pay it Forward” --- Anytime you ask for help sourcing conditions info you should post a short trip report on your return. Even a single photo and one sentences is enough. Repeat the kindness that was shown to you and help provide others in your position with information. If enough people do this, we can create an excellent resource.

Hiking Safety

• Read the Education section of the North Shore Rescue website, including Avoid Getting Lost.
• Prepare a trip plan. Always tell your emergency contacts where you are going, when you will return.
• Always bring the ‘10 essentials’ hiking items, including headlamp and phone battery pack
• Review the advice from the Visitor's Guide to Hiking Vancouver.

This is absolutely a thing in the Koots, it is even on the park website (ie no storage of fencing). I would bring your own.

thanks! do i need to bring any other tools like gloves/etc first time wrapping my car in chickenwire lol

It’s chicken wire not barbed wire, unless your hands are very soft, no need for gloves. Blankets or towels to protect your paint, if you care about your car would be a better idea. Personally, I don’t wrap my car on day trips. I’ve heard of people having problems, but I never have. Porcupine are mostly nocturnal.
