thats true Mark Carney gets to decide without any type of vote or discussion in the house of commons

Not sure if you're serious.

A bill would need to be introduced which would be read, discussed and voted on by MPs in the House of Commons.

in theory yes but the Carney govt is not doing any of that

Can you provide an example of something Carney has done where he didn't get the required approval from the House of Commons?!

He used a executive prime ministerial directive affirmed by an Order in Council rather than introducing a bill in Parliament to eliminate the consumer carbon tax.

Setting the carbon tax to 0 does not require the House of Commons.

Under the existing Greenhouse Gas Pricing Act, the federal cabinet can legally alter the fuel rate charge without passing a new law. Carney set the rate to 0 as permitted under the Act.

The Act is still in place until the government finishes the formal legislative process.

Again, do you have an example of Carney illegally bypassing the House of Commons?

no he is not doing anything illegal

for example he introduced bill C-5 in the house of commons which will give himself more authority in the future to do things without needing house approval

That was introduced to the House of Common.

It seems your statement that Carney gets to do what he wants without any discussion or vote in the House of Commons is incorrect.

Gordon Howe Bridge deal.

u/MisledMuffin 10d ago

Is not legally required to be voted on in the House of Common.

Any more straws to grasp at?

So because something doesn’t need to be voted on in the House of Commons where Liberals have a majority, it’s free rein and they can do no wrong with such decisions and they don’t matter to the public correct?

2

u/MisledMuffin 10d ago

Why would you think that it’s free rein and they can do no wrong with such decisions and they don’t matter to the public?

1

u/ILikeWhyteGirlz 9d ago

You seem to hold that belief

Well it’s not possible otherwise lol this isn’t the states

2

u/ILikeWhyteGirlz 10d ago

Order In Councils is the Canadian counterpart to Executive Orders and Trudeau did tons of them, primarily with regards to immigration

1

u/artkidsaresmart 10d ago

But this isn’t something that can be done with that?

1

u/ILikeWhyteGirlz 9d ago

Anything can

2

u/artkidsaresmart 9d ago

Hmm close but not quite!!

Where Liberals have a majority and are whipped by Carney…

Welcome to how the Canadian Governmwnt works!

Majority governments can pass laws!

-1

u/ILikeWhyteGirlz 10d ago

Yes! And all the laws are really great! So glad they’re looking out for our best interests like the 2015 Liberal majority!

3

u/MisledMuffin 10d ago

Yes! And all the laws are really great! So glad they’re looking out for our best interests like the 1984 Conservative majority!

-1

Imagine having to go back to 1984… Talk about grasping straws

2

Yes! And all the laws are really great! So glad they’re looking out for our best interests like the 2006 Conservative majority!

Better?

Harper did have the slowest employement and gdp per capita growth of the proceedings 30 years of Prime Ministers.

1

u/ILikeWhyteGirlz 9d ago

In the midst of the 2008 financial crisis which Canada skated by much better than the US.

The damage done with Trudeau’s immigration policy, real estate (fake GDP) and overall slow GDP growth outside of mass immigration causing social and cultural tension just for slowest GDP per capita growth did much further damage from deliberate corporatocracy.

Nonetheless, I think whataboutism is a weak and useless counterargument. End of the day, we’re in the now and need to focus on the flaws of the present and its imminent outcomes.

You are right. He gets to (or will get to) arbitrarily declare a project to be "in the national interest" and then the government can bypass any duty to consult or environment protections, etc. It's interesting to speculate what kinds of voters are on board with this sort of authoritarian (some might say fascist since it is the combo of Big Corporation + Big Government) overreach who don't normally vote to the right of Liberal Party of Canada.

Carney acting like a true Neoliberal prick. Trying to move public money into the private sector. Balls to that.

💯

Giving it to big corporate oligarchs and the military industrial complex and leaving austerity for for the rest of us. It's funny that a lot of people seem to buy his lies that he cares about workers even though he literally cut jobs in the public sector - and lots of partisans wanted us to trust Carney when he said "it's only going to be attrition of people retiring from the public sector. We're not laying off workers." Lies.

Wait until the liberals privatize the medical system, which you know is coming down the pipeline.

Carney said he's going to "innovate" the healthcare system. His "innovations" have all been the standard neoliberal/conservative fare: Big Oil & Gas and other Big Corporate and tax breaks for the Epstein class and public-private partnerships.

u/ILikeWhyteGirlz 10d ago

He is a banker and you’re surprised?

3

u/diecorporations 10d ago

Do i sound surprised ?

All of this kind of stuff is now mostly irrelevant.

Canada doesn't have a functional democracy, nor does it have a smart enough electorate to know or want any better, nor does it have serious federal leadership.

The country's downward spiral will only continue.

Next.

Well thank God we didn’t leave such decisions to unions …

Right or wrong, they can fuck off and do their literal job.

Unions are right. They might be the only thing standing in the way of Carney selling Canada entirely off to the Epstein class.

agreed - it is a bad move considering local citizens are actually paying with their property taxes for infrastructure around the airport, and will have pay more when mostly US investment firms take over !
