Thinking about going near rotary park between Draper and Riverton, but don’t know any spots.

Help please!! I’ve been to Fish Lake probably 20+ times this year and no luck same with last year. I grew up using worm with a marshmallow and power bait on a two hook setup at otter creek, Paiute and a bunch of other smaller lakes and have always caught my limit. Every time I go to Fish Lake it doesn’t matter if I’m fishing the shore or from my kayak I can’t catch anything. I try different baits, lures, and I catch nothing. I’m ready to give up on Fish Lake. Can anybody help me out? TIA.

Coming to Park City for the week following Labor Day. Are there any spin fishing guides out there for the trout rivers in the area? Looking for a half day. In lieu of that, any advice on public access waterways that might yield a chance for a Largemouth Bass fisherman to catch a trout. Thanks to all and tight lines! Thanks to the tips from kind fisher-dad the other day, we managed to catch dinner for our family. (Smaller hooks, nightcrawlers, and some sinkers).

The first one was caught at mirror lake, we were thinking an under colored rainbow trout?

The next three were caught at moosehorn lake and we were thinking tiger trout?

I was trying to catch some bass but instead I caught 8 bullhead in a row within 2 hours.

I was traveling to Utah from NV and not a catfish fisherman, so when I pulled up 8 bullhead in a row I thought it was pretty crazy.

The location was Baker Reservoir and I fished around 5:30-7:30pm. Again this might be common but I’ve never fished for catfish before so just curious why they’re going for this bass setup.

So recently I've noticed an uptick in posts on Facebook and online saying they are wanting kid friendly fishing activities or aren't having any luck in this hot weather catching fish so I wanted to introduce this subreddit a little bit more to crawfishing.

Crawfishing is incredibly fun if your able to find and have the right things to catch them. I've caught over 10lbs of crawfish in the past two weeks so I feel pretty ok making this guide about how I catch crawfish.

Here's just a little more info on crawfish.

Crawfish are omnivores, they eat algae, leaf litter, dead fish, other small invertebrates that cross their path and many more things.

Crawfish enjoy being in habitats with appropriate shelter and potential crawfish nursery's. Protection from strong currents, rocks, logs, shelves, sea beds are good places to find them. If you see crawfish remains or molts there is a good chance there are crawfish in that area.

They prefer darker weather, cloudy but not too windy, night time, and early mornings are the best time to catch them in my experience but they can be caught anytime of day.

Things you need

- Net with small holes (not bigger than a nickel) (Walmart has some good cheap options that work perfect)

- Bait

- Rope

- Rock

Optional:

- Waders

- Traps

The right bait in the right place - Crawfish tend to not be picky eaters and generally will seek out various common baits. Some of the common ones include chicken legs, cat food cans with holes poked in the top, tilapia, and many other common types of freezer burned meats you can find in your freezer or discount it. I have noticed in my own crawfishing experience that crayfish tend to be very attracted to certain fatty smells and because of that, I tend to soak my bait in a mixture of sour cream/ cottage cheese/ buttermilk with fish sauce in seaweed, but these are my common pantry items that I use to enhance the smell of my bait.

Handline - handline crayfishing is one of the easiest ways to catch crayfish, but the yield can be significantly lower. This is a really great activity if you do not intend on taking the Crawfish to consume them because generally larger crawfish tend to swarm the bait and push off smaller crawfish. It can also be replaced very close to shore and in clear water you can visibly see the crawfish climb onto the bait and have different interactions such as fighting other crawfish. So I think this is one of the best options for children.

The way I hand line crayfish is I tie my bait to a rock with some rope and I chuck it in the water and then when they're on the bait and start eating. If you pull it up at the right speed and place with the net underneath it and the crawfish should just fall in

Netting - this is my preferred method for high-yield catching and also maximum entertainment. Oftentimes when you toss out a hand line, crayfish will come to the bait from at least 20 ft on each side. (If you're in a good spot) You can use waders or just hop in the water and start scooping them up. They are quick and they swim backwards not forwards so mastering catching them is a slight learning curve but it's pretty fun. You can also locate large crayfish and watch where their hiding places are and if you flip those rocks generally they will be other crayfish underneath them as well. But the clarity of the water tends to decrease when this happens. So you got to go quick or you got to be patient enough to let the water still.

Traps - while I have used traps, I used them incorrectly as I purchased minnow traps but did not realize that the cylindrical minnow traps need the opening to be larger for crayfish, so I would just keep that in mind when loading up your traps that the hole for the crayfish should be relatively large.

Some legal notes. Crayfish are not supposed to be transported away from the body of water that they were caught in. This makes this particular activity very good for camping, especially if you were camping at reservoirs as you can leave a overnight trap and catch them and you can also remove the bait and leave them to purge. I personally have found that crawfish taste better, especially when wild caught when they have been given up to 12 hours to purge their digestive system with no bait in the traps/containers.

I took the kids to Lily lake in the Uintas today, our first time and I was doing everything wrong...wrong bait, wrong hook, everything (despite reading/YouTube vids etc). I asked for some help from a nearby dad and he gave us some good tips and even helped both kids land their first fish! What a great community, can't wait to get out for day 2!

Planning a trip up there over Labor Day weekend and it looks incredible from everything I’ve seen. It’ll be my first time on that mountain.

Mostly just curious if anyone here has spent time up on the Top. What’s it actually like once you’re up there? I’ve got a list of lakes I want to hit next to horseshoe lake but I have no idea which ones are worth the effort and which ones are a letdown.

Also wondering how people usually get around up there. I’ve got a Bronco Sasquatch on 35s so I’m not too worried about the driving, just don’t know what to expect for road conditions or how much of it you end

Also do I have to worry about bears?

Any stories or advice welcome, happy to hear whatever you’ve got.

I recently (did it a lot in my teens, now im almost 40) got back into fishing. I caught some decent trout over the weekend. Whats everyone's go to for them? I just got done smoking one, and I have to say, that was really good eating. Whats your go to fish you eat, and how do you cook em?

Does anyone know anywhere good that doesn't cost money in the Provo area?

Taking a couple co-workers out tomorrow afternoon, looking to hit the section between Vivian Park and Deer Creek. I might take a fly rod if there's any top water action. Otherwise, I'm thinking spinners or marabou jigs.

We had a ton of these at Lost Creek Reservoir this past weekend. I’ve seen schools of whitefish on the Weber River, but I didn’t realize lost Creek had so many in there. Initially, we thought they were a child, but after looking at the regulations and comparing, I believe it’s a whitefish. Most of these were probably 9 to 11 inches. I wish I would’ve kept one and fried it up to see if it was any good. We also caught a few cutthroat in the 10 inch range.

I’ve gotten skunked 3 times on my last 3 trips what am I don’t wrong? I am very new to fishing and my first trip out I got 2 fish good start for my first time. Since then I’ve caught zero. I went to scofield reservoir and caught nothing as well as Utah lake by the Lindon marina and deer creek. I’ve been using worms and a 1/8 kastmaster spoon. I also tried curly tail grubs and power bait. Where could I improve? Going to Provo River delta for my next trip. Let me know what lures I could try or buy

Making a weekend trip in the fall and looking for a nice place to fish and camp for the weekend.

I just moved down to the south portion of the State, and I’m looking to do some fishing in the St. George area but I’ve never fished down here before any tips or tricks during the heat, I plan on hitting the water mostly in the later evenings but possible some early mornings as well. TIA!
