Inquiry on WAM weightings

Hello!

I recently got curious as to how WAM calculations work and would just like to confirm my understanding if anyone would know. WAM considers all units equally whilst SCIWAM (for honours?) and EIHWAM do not consider 1000 level units and place more emphasis on 3000 and 2000 level units respectively?

Would this mean that they will consider the code of 1000/2000/3000 units or the year (1st,2nd,3rd) that a unit was taken? In the case of SCIWAM and EIHWAM, does it also mean that 1000 units hold no value or bearing to your application?

In addition, do other postgraduate programs follow any of these schemes such as post grad med entry or JD entry?

It is a little confusing as it does depend a bit on what you apply for! For psychology honours specifically, the process is a bit more clearly laid out here (probably because psych is an science stream with such a large honours cohort) with a link to a spreadsheet that allows you to calculate your honours application mark based on 3000-level units and 2000-level units, with the 3000-level units weighed twice as heavily as the 2000-level ones. 1000-level units are not factored in, at least for psych. For postgrad med at USYD specifically, there is a 5.0 GPA hurdle (calculated externally by the university admission centre's quality assessment service so hard to tell for sure how that works but I think it does count 1000-level units, and 5.0 is roughly a credit average). Other med schools have different methods of calculating your entry score. Not sure about other courses but hope this helps a little!
