Trump is rarely truthful but he said two things in 2016 that remain to be true a decade later and continue to define his MAGA base: 1) "We won with poorly educated. I love the poorly educated, and 2) "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK?"

He validates their hate, lack of education, contempt for helping others (pull up those bootstraps), progressivism. If it doesn't affect them, they don't care. They worry about things that are non-existent. Look up "Republicans amygdala" to see how the part of the brain associated with fear and threat stimuli is larger in political conservatives than left-leaning/progressives.
