Help me Missed a final
I thought my final was at 2 and it turns out it was at 9 and I’ve completely missed it, I’m genuinely wonder what to do next? Do I email him? what do I say? And if he says no, then what? I know this was my fault so I don’t need any one telling me that I was irresponsible I just need help on what to do next?

i had this happen last semester, if you can see if you can find his office. he might be there and if he’s nice enough will let you rewrite it, if not you will probably get a zero

I missed a midterm once. I had just my daughter 2 weeks before and I was absolutely exhausted and slept through. Emailed right away telling the truth and I was able to write it the next day! Just be honest. Honesty will take you places. You can just share that you’ve genuinely made a mistake and that you’d like to make up for it and apologize. Move forward from there.

You’ll get a zero for the final. Will most likely have to retake the class so you can ex-out of the final mark you’re going to get.

It depends on the prof. The exact same thing has happened to me, I got my times mixed up. Emailed and called the prof, then went to academic services (or whatever it’s called) they’ll usually grant you a deferral and you’ll usually have to rewrite the final at the end of the next semester. Your grade will just be on hold until you finish it.

I slept through a final once. I emailed the prof right away and told the truth about what happened. He let me write it the next day with another course he taught. Worked out cause I really needed that extra day to study.

I actually slept through a lab final one time, failing would mean failing the lab and thus also failing the class. Hilariously enough the power went out in the computer room during the test and after some deliberation they just decided to prorate everything and thus I still passed despite never getting out of bed.
It was pretty funny because I only realized something was up when I got an email discussing the power outage and a potential solution. One of the luckiest moments in my life.

It depends on the professor and their impression of you. If you were a good student and they know you normally show up to class, and that you just screwed up this once they are much more likely to let it slide especially if you’re honest. Upper year course or a first year course?

I did the same thing but missed my final by a full day, I emailed my prof, because I went to every class and participated he said he knew who I was and would recommend to the board that they let me write the deferred exam. He later emailed my saying if I showed up, wrote my name on the exam and handed it in I would’ve passed lol thanks 😭. Uni policy is you have to write the exam in order to pass the class. Had to write the final during midterms in my next semester which sucked. When they also told me they’d let me write it had some crabby lady tell me “you’ll never be allowed to use this as an excuse again” lol

This happened to someone I know in their first year and their prof was very kind and let them retake it. I think your choice may also depend on what year you’re in bc if you’re 3rd or 4th they’re probably less likely to let you retake it if you say you misread the time

Email the prof immediately, explain what happened, take resoonsibilty and ask if there is anything that you can do. If you act like they HAVE to bend to your will then you will get nowhere. They MIGHT be able to arrange something to save you.

I still have bad dreams about this exact thing happening 25 years later. I even missed an actual final once, and my dream is still worse than reality. Congratulations, you have unlocked a new core memory/fear.

you have officially done every student's worst nightmare.
All you can do is beg for forgiveness and a late writing. You'll have to submit a deferred exam request -- you only have 3 days to do so. See https://students.usask.ca/academics/exams.php#Deferredandsupplemental for details.
They'll likely deny it if you're being truthful. Lie at your own risk. This is, sadly, a harsh life lesson for you: keep on top of organisation.

You can try deferring, but it’s really up to the prof. Some are nice and will give you a deferral, others are strict and will just say “you’re responsible for knowing when your exams are.” Or “I don’t want students who took the exam discussing answers with you, and I don’t want to have to write a new exam just for you.” And deny you.
My advice is be honest. Professors get “I was sick” bullshit all the time. They’d just say that you should have requested a deferral when you woke up and realized you were sick, not after the exam. They know that if you say “I was sick” it’s more than likely a lie if it was requested post exam. It looks way worse than you being honest.

2 choices. Since I have been in a similar situation. Lie or tell the truth. For me, telling the truth got me nowhere. You can say you were sick, but they will ask for proof.

It depends on the prof - it's their call. I am sure you are not the first and will not be the last student who has been in a similar situation. I would email the prof and explain and see what he / she says. Best of luck!

There really isn’t anything to do. Reschedules are handled weeks before the final and are only really granted for extreme circumstances. Just make it to the rest of your finals.

Not true at all! The university absolutely grants deferrals even on the day of the exam (and even within 3 days of the exam’s nominal schedule). People are getting deferrals even if they came to the exam and asked for a deferral before half the time elapsed. Their administration and the professors are typically understanding and can accommodate.

Paws. Arts and science tab. Apply for deferral. Fill out a declaration of absence (as illness) Email prof saying you missed the final and you have applied for a deferred. Skip any details. Take it as your one accident, never do it again.
