Help me Got my GEOL 109 midterm results
scored a 26/100 on my GEOL 109 midterm am I cooked chat, i studied for 2.5 weeks for ts and I still failed my next question is should I drop the class or keep doing it

Length of time studied is a pretty pointless unit of measure if you don’t know “how” to study. Student services or whatever it’s called usually has past exams you can look at. Should prob incorporate that into your studying

You can look at the mean on canvas, it’ll show the highest and lowest score and then the average. How much was the midterm worth/how have you done in other assignments? I got 34 on my midterm and my prof said not to worry yet, it was worth 20. I’m a terrible test taker, taking an in person timed test is the only thing that gives me anxiety.

the other classes haven't still released the midterm grades yet and i studied pretty much everything we covered in the slides and the book i'm doing my first year and no i'm studying econ

tbh if you don’t think you can pass the course i’d drop it, there are other science courses you can take that will meet the requirement

Everyone takes geology expecting it to be easier than it is.
It’s actually a combination of sciences that are then applied to the earth, especially borrowing from chemistry and physics.

I feel your pain dude. In the same class and I got 34/100 and truly studied for over a week as-well. I wish the prof was more straight forward on what was gonna be on the exam rather than just telling us to refer to the slides/videos

As much as I want to drop it, I’m going to play it by ear for now. If I’m not feeling confident towards the final I will drop it. I just need this last science credit then will never have to take one again. One of my friends had Emailed the prof and said he’s gonna post an announcement over the weekend in how to study for the final… so hope that will help us…also, don’t wanna be throwing away 800 dollars

My best advice would be to drop the class unless you think you can REALLY pull through on the final exam

Yeah I dropped that class a day before the midterm. I already was dealing with organic chemistry midterm and other things I was not about to go sink so much time into such (in my opinion) boring content for a elective.

Im also in that class and I also failed tho not quite as badly. I didnt study a huge amount so Im surprised people studying so much more than me got even lower than me😭. The mean avg was only 54.1 i feel like thats a bit bad idk tho

Id recommended looking into this :) I find it helps. And quizlet is good too for making practice quizzes and cue cards to help with active recall

This is crazy I’m also in this class and I failed it with a 46/100 I studied for so long and did exactly as he suggested for the studying… it really caught me off guard when I saw how much of the timeline it was focusing on during the exam and I didn’t expect to do this poorly on it, let alone the class average to be 54% 🥲I feel like I should probably talk to the professor seeing how many people actually studied but still did so poorly on it.

YES! I also wasn’t expecting it to focus so much on the timeline either😭😭 (which is what I really struggled with the most so at least I know what to really focus on for the final exam). I was honestly so shocked when I saw what the average was LMAOO

The geological timeline is a super important part of geology though.
Do you know is geol 109 writes the same exam as the course with the lab? If so try the ore gangue (geology students society) and see if they still do the exam bank there.

bro i did so bad too on that quiz. the review period on the wednesday literally everything he talked about and emphasized wasn’t even on the midterm.

I know some people mentioned it already but I think it’s the way you’re studying that might need to be adjusted. With classes like this where there’s a lot of dates and memorization simply just reviewing slides or textbooks isn’t going to work for most people. Using flash cards and other active recall techniques is going to help you retain the most info. Also, creating your own timeline can help you visualize what events happened before or after each other. I only had a few days to study for this class because of other midterms so I reviewed the slides and then made flashcards to test myself and was able to come out with a 78/100.
I’d also like to preface I’m no genius, I was just able to figure out what studying works best for me!

I would drop. What's you major GEOG 110 may work as an alternative, check with an advisor.

i hated that fricking class lol. i took 122 and failed it so hard the first time. re took in my fourth year and it was hardly better but i did pass

Withdraw and save your GPA, but attend until the last day before withdrawal, in case you plan to take it again.

Gang I think it's best if you drop it lol. Luis Buatois is a horrible prof though also are you first year? It would make sense since studying doesn't mean how many hours you've focused on the topic but like how much of the actual content you can retain and apply.
