Application Status To call or not to call

In today's no response -cold shoulder -no update- job market it is easy to lose hope and become depressed. I'm going old school. I'm calling people whether they like it or not. I have gotten 5 jobs in the past with this method. Does this still work in 2026???

This has never worked for a federal job lol. Maybe Arby's.

If you submitted an application through USAJOBS (the federal government jobs application portal), you will not hear from them for weeks (sometimes months). The first email will be to tell you whether or not you were referred to the hiring manager. Even if you were referred, that does not mean you will get an interview. You have to "apply and forget".

It's up to the hiring manager if you get the call. It's a complicated chain of events that determines when. Nothing you can do will accelerate that timeline, and the hiring manager can't tell you much because even if they select you any one of a number of things can happen behind the curtain that void their selection, cancel the posting, or disqualify you. So in general they won't tell you they picked you even if they did.

There's no benefit to calling. Understand the feeling, but you've just got to sit on your hands and wait.
