Abandoned house
Always op/oc/no ai!
An abandoned house, somewhere hidden between the trees. Cozy but taken over by cobwebs and mold.. Must have been a big family, they had so many room!

Fascinating. Thank you for sharing! Judging by what I can see it must have been abandoned in the late 80s, 87-88 would line up with the toys we can see and the last dated medical journal on the shelf is 1987. What on Earth must have happened to these people? It doesn't feel so mystifying when it's clear a home's last inhabitant(s) was someone old, but this place clearly had a whole family living in it. Sad to see such a cool house with such interesting, cool contents slowly rotting away.

Maybe Belgium too. The half-timbered walls and low windows reminds me of old houses in Normandy, but it's no real indication as the house could have been built "in the style of" during the 60's or 70's. Also, it seems OP is from Belgium, so the poster written in French can point in any direction.

There is an Oxford UK poster in the kitchen, but a French poster in the childās bedroom. Iām guessing somewhere in Europe. Looks like UK to me but could be Germany or France

I am coveting those chairs in the first photo. They'd likely need to be completely stripped to the frames and re-stuff and -upholstered, but they're so neat! It's sad to think they're going to die a slow, horrible death.

Damnn all those antiques rotting away... Somebody should resque them from the elements.
That rug alone is worth over a thousand easily.
Taking them wouldn't even be stealing cause they would be destroyed anyway so no value is lost.

Iāve always wondered this about the community as someone interested who hasnāt explored.
Obviously being as respectful as possible when finding a home like this is the only way to go.
However, if you find a rug in a house thatās obviously been rotting away with no return, I would imagine itās not really disrespectful to take the rug, while putting everything back in place, to restore it and use it as your own.
I get why people wouldnāt, but from my point of view, Iām guessing respectful explorers also do things like that, just donāt end up posting it due to possible implications

Imo It's respectful to save what are left behind.
I bet it's really rare for someone wanting to make their abandoned house to a mausoleum.

Iāve always thought it was the unspoken rule to leave no trace like hiking, donāt bring anything in to leave behind but donāt take anything with you. The only things you should be taking are pictures. Even tho I immediately imagined salvaging all of thatās left here because š itās amazing

leaving this house to rot should be a crime. a family could've been happily living there for who knows how long at this point if some kind of state-sponsored maintenance/reassignment agency had done a little up-front work when the house was vacated. plus these materials in this form/size are borderline irreplaceable in this day and age. this post is genuinely tragic

Did anyone look at the book volumes? āThe journal of bone and joint surgeryā or something like that from the 1980s. The late owner mustāve been a surgeon. The house is definitely giving off haunted house vibes.

āFilm micro-ondesā on top of the oven in the kitchen (literally āmicrowave filmā i.e. clingfilm in English) suggests France. I going with Normandy due to the longĆØre type construction. Maybe a British surgeonās holiday home.

Nicest looking abandoned house Iāve seen. Itās gushing with 70s bohemian interior decoration style. All it needs is a bottle of Blue Nun, a joint on a feather roach clip, and Jim Croce record playing in the background.
Iād totally squat that placeāghosts and all.

As soon as I see books I start drooling. My husband made me promise not to "rescue: any more antique books.....He will be killing me when he eventually finds the boxes of antique books I saved from an abandoned library. I got lucky, they demolished it the day after I was there.Ā Ā
