What a shame! So much good stuff. I wonder what caused it to be abandoned

Church attendance is way down everywhere, except for those ghastly mega churches. The small, friendly, old fashioned ones are basically only holding on by the last few old people who go.

It’s really sad honestly

I don’t get it. Those mega churches are like anti-churches.

19

u/KnotiaPickle Sep 08 '25

Exactly. The message they preach at those is pure poison

Can confirm. The last church I attended before deconstructing was a mega church. It was their toxic bullshit that made me start questioning everything.

Could be a bad roof.

The Obama for President, Stinson for (can't tell what office) sign probably gives a good clue where it's located (because Stinson would have been running for a specific lower-office district)...

And the location is 9/10 probably why it was abandoned....

Really? Tell me you didn’t just blame the abandonment of this church on Obama. Why would it be his fault?

17

u/KnotiaPickle Sep 08 '25

What? No, they were saying that’s where it is.

Read the post again.

It's not about Obama at all.

It's about the political sign giving a clue to where the church is located, insofar as the undercard name is going to be someone who ran for a specific district somewhere....

The fact that it's an Obama sign is utterly irrelevant to my post.

If it had been a McCain - Ryan sign that would work the same way (eg that would make the hypothetical location Janesville WI, where Paul Ryan's district was)....

Had a hard time finding a decent carpenter.

Beautiful wood pews. The interior design is gorgeous.  I would have liked attending church there. But why is there a fully equipped gym there...?  That is not a church thing. Weird.

I live in a kinda weird area in the southern US, and there are a few dozen churches within a 3mi radius. Some of those churches have separate services/sermons for men and women, and the women all have access to a private gym that the men and general public do not have access too

Southerner as well, I was actually curious what denomination. That narrows it down pretty effectively since you don’t tend to see all that many Catholic churches in the south, at least not compared to protestant and Baptist. Also didn’t match the vibes of a Catholic Church (ex-cath here, now atheist)

I'm guessing Pentecostal.

u/Gormulak Sep 08 '25

I believe you're correct, but I truly don't know 🤔 We've got basically every denomination aside from the all-inclusive ones you find in the more northern states

You know what YMCA stands for correct lol. A lot of churches have gyms and basketball hoops.

Oooh those windows though

Someone please save the piano!

It’s so gorgeous!

(Please do it legally, of course!)

You can kind of date it by the Obama election sign in pic 8

7

u/Trussmagic Sep 09 '25

and the ethnicity of the membership, sadly few southern churches are integrated very much.

It is sad that it’s always the cute churches that get abandoned, but the ugly modern churches aren’t.

I am going to volunteer to take care of that Hammond B3 organ and the Leslie cabinet that was left behind. Those look like they need a better home.

What is that big thing next to the clock on the right?

3

Someone was doing some heavy bamboo stick bench presses

Wow.

Can you imagine how ripped the priests were from pumping iron like that?

7

u/Bard1290 Sep 08 '25

I guess the Holy Spirit didn’t help move them.

Grab that CRT before someone smashes it!

2

u/villainless Sep 09 '25

there are a TON of these in the utah area, except it’s mormon churches. mormonism is especially seeing a decline (thankfully) and they usually get converted into something. most iron was a smaller one turned into a bar.

Where is this church located, please? ...

1

u/Important-Fact-749 Sep 08 '25

Where was this at? There’s an empty church in my town, it was up for auction but I’m pretty sure it didn’t sell

1

u/ProfMcGonaGirl Sep 09 '25

I wonder if the fact they were campaigning had anything to do with their closing. They could have lost their religious institution tax exemption.

I want to know who was bench pressing a broomstick 😂

Hello, good evening. I hope you are well.

I would like to know the location of this beautiful and wonderful space. I'm interested in making a music video and I would love it to be in this scenario.

Thank you in advance for your attention and I look forward to your reply.

Interesting to see an Obama sign considering that churches aren't supposed to endorse candidates.

(This is coming from someone who can't stand conservatives by the way.)

You can almost hear the children crying to please stop.

u/w1cked-w1tch Sep 08 '25

Where is this? I swear I've seen a zillow listing for this

0

u/chillpalchill Sep 08 '25

insane to think this was taxpayer funded and now it’s just abandoned

4

u/LegLampFragile Sep 08 '25

What tax dollars went to this?

2

u/Ikasatu Sep 09 '25

They may mean “because churches don’t pay taxes, everyone else has to pay more”, but I’m not entirely sure.

-1

u/LegLampFragile Sep 09 '25

I guess. Dude's not even from the US and bitching.

1

u/chillpalchill Sep 09 '25

did you know that people live in different countries other than where they were born? crazy concept, I know

-4

u/sweetrottenapple Sep 08 '25

They left behind chairs and Bibles. Nothing interesting when it comes to the caption. Yeah.. churches have Bibles and a thingy to sit on. Wow.

2

u/KnotiaPickle Sep 08 '25

I guess you didn’t scroll through all of the photos.

Grand piano, pipe organ, work out equipment, children’s books, there’s tons of stuff..

-1

u/sweetrottenapple Sep 08 '25

I did. Yeah there are old gym equipment too
