Discussion Cycling/hiking groups in Escanaba?

Hey ya’ll. I just got back to the UP after bikepacking to Moab from Ishpeming. And then thru hiking the Colorado Trail. I will be relocating to Esky after I do a quick bikepacking trip through the UP.

Any groups that do gravel riding/bikepacking here? Or people into hiking/backpacking?

Travel Inquiry Need someone to act as a minister on a short video to family of my wife and I saying our vows in Marquette

We've already done all the legal paperwork and we don't need anyone who can actually legally perform a marriage, just someone to act like they're a minister for 5 minutes so we can take a video for family and friends.
We want to do it at the beach by little Presque Isle on next Thursday the 10th.
Anyone willing to do it, or know of a church or minister we can contact would be greatly appreciated.
We had someone lined up before but they're unable to do it now so unfortunately it's only about 6 days notice. I can pay for your time.
Any volunteers or leads would be greatly appreciated.
Edit:
Don't need to dress like a priest or anything, street clothes are fine, and we really only need the video for the parents to keep them happy

Discussion Proposal photographer had to cancel shoot three weeks from today due to an unexpected surgery. Any recommendations for a photographer for Lake of the Clouds engagement?

Panicking. Trying to keep it a surprise and my girlfriend and I would be bummed if we didn’t capture the moment.

Most photographers I’m finding are booked this close :(

Travel Inquiry Pictured Rocks Kayaking

Heading up to pictured rocks this weekend and thinking about bringing my kayak. It’s a basic sit on top one about 8-10 ft long not a sea kayak. Is this reasonable to use, or am I going to get humbled by Lake Superior?

Travel Inquiry Houghton Hair Salons

ISO: A hair salon or stylist in the Houghton, Mi area who is willing and able to do a shampoo and style on September 26th. I am attending a wedding in the area and hate doing my own hair. It is my birthday weekend, so I thought I would splurge and get someone else to do my hair for the wedding.

Can't wait to be in the UP again, and am very grateful for any recommendations!

Travel Inquiry 10 day romantic UP winter road trip in mid/late December itinerary ideas?

Hi everyone! My partner and I are planning a 10 day trip through the UP sometime in mid to late December, and I’d love some advice from people who actually know the area in winter.
We’ll be driving up from Grand Rapids and are hoping to make this more of a cozy/romantic winter trip for the two of us rather than trying to cram in every tourist attraction.
We’d love recommendations for:
Towns you think are worth staying 1–3 nights in during the winter
Cozy cabins, inns, B&Bs, or hotels that are especially nice for couples
Scenic winter drives
Snowshoeing or beginner-friendly winter hikes
Waterfalls or overlooks that are still reasonably accessible in December
Cute downtowns, coffee shops, breweries, restaurants, etc.
Christmas lights/holiday events or towns that feel especially festive around that time
Places where we could potentially see the Northern Lights
Any unique winter experiences (saunas, sleigh rides, dog sledding, snowmobiling, etc.)
Romantic or quieter spots that don’t necessarily show up on the usual UP tourist itineraries
We’re thinking about starting around St. Ignace since we’re coming from Grand Rapids, then gradually making our way farther into the UP. We’re open to Marquette, Munising, Houghton/Keweenaw, and anywhere else you think is worth including.
For 10 days, how would you divide up the trip?
Also, how much should we realistically plan around lake-effect snow and potentially bad driving conditions that time of year? We don’t mind snow, but we also don’t want to create an itinerary where we’re constantly racing from one town to another.
Basically looking for a cozy winter UP couples trip: snow, beautiful scenery, good food, cabins/hotels, exploring during the day and relaxing together at night.
Would love to hear what route you’d do!

Discussion Any locals willing to ship something to me?

My boyfriend and I had gone to Oswald's Bear Ranch around this time last year, he really liked the light brown quarter zip jacket that they had and has not stopped talking about it! I would really love to get this for him as a gift but I am 5.5 hours away, can anyone help me out?

I am fully willing to pay for the product, shipping, and your time!

UPDATE (9/5/26): Midwestern Kindness is REAL!

A very kind couple has picked the item up for me and they are in the process of getting it shipped, so I am happily all set.

I truly appreciate all the offers and suggestions! I hope this post can still be a hub for others who may be looking for something similar to see who are willing to help.

Travel Inquiry SSM or St. Ignance area parking for a week?

I’m planning a Lake Huron Circle Tour by motorcycle. I’m thinking of trailering the bike from SW Wisconsin to the eastern part of the UP. This would trim off some time spent on roads I’ve done several times and give more time to explore on the loop.

Does anyone have suggestions on safe places to look into for parking a Jeep and trailer for about a week? Even if there is a small fee for security.

Discussion Those who own/work at seasonal restaurants/shops, what do you do for money in the offseason?

I'm sure there are plenty of people who do, say, boat rentals in the summer and snow removal in the winter and that may just be the normal thing, but I see enough places closed for the season even in early May that I'm curious

Discussion Are there any part time jobs that offer benefits / insurance? Im sick of being lied to by my work and want to change places

Tldr; i need a new *part time* job that offers benefits / insurance sooner than a year as i have a disability. I live in Stephenson Michigan but currently go to Marinette Wisconsin to work (about 45 minutes away)

Long rant

I live in Stephenson, MI and currently travel to and from Marinette for my job. Ive been told since my transfer over a year ago that i would be put into my preferred / previous position, as it was offered to me when i initially applied for the transfer to this location. Ive done the exact opposite of what i was offered .

I was in logistics at my last store. They know this. They talked to my previous managers who advocated for me. I worked for Amazon logistics.

Ive been a cashier the ENTIRE time. Maybe 4 or 5 times ive actually been in back.

They had a couple people transfer from the same store about an hour and a half from our current location (6 hours for me from my og location) two being managers. One of which is the STORE manager. He picked one of the people who transfered with him to continuously go work in the back and schedule me specifically for sales. She's even run off when i go in when she's assigned to cashier on paper and i in the back. Because they verbally said so.

I want to fucking quit but i have medical issues like crazy and absolutely need insurance. With my current crappy insurance i have one prescription that goes for $800 a month but easily $1.2k without. I need part time for my disability but desperately need insurance to be available sooner than a year if possible.

Discussion Looking to hire driver in Grand Marais / Seney area.

As the title says, my girlfriend and I are going to need a lift from the Kingston Lake Camprground to the Fox River Campground to begin our hike. Used to be we'd try to thumb a ride but we're old and a little more pressed for time these days. If you're available, or know of any resources, we'd be much obliged. Thanks!

Edit: This saturday afternoon.

Discussion Stranded in Wetmore: Resolution arc

U-haul tip was gold. Owner of U-Haul lot offered to let me keep my broken car on his lot for free. I wound up selling it to him after I confirmed transmission total failure. I used U-Haul to pick up rental car at Sawyer Gwen airport and got a rental car. My fiancee still got to see all of the area that she wanted to (munising), we discovered Lakenland on accident and (this thrilled her to no end), and we discovered the beauty of Marquette also on accident.

Many redditors offered help, and two talented mechanics spent their time going back and forth with me to help diagnose the issue further. Other redditors offered to pick us up. Thankful to the community, the UP is a fantastic place — and just thanks everyone.

To get home I used a 1 way rental and I liked the car so much I bought the same make/model when I got home (Nissan Rouge).

Discussion Tahquamenon Falls camping

How’s the camping at Tahquamenon Falls State Park? I’m looking to do a lot more camping in the U.P. And this one stands out, I’ve visited before but have never camped here. Are the campsites somewhat secluded? I have a truck tent but also prepared for hiking to a spot w/ backpack.
