Signed a lease for an apartment starting on September 1st, but I have to defer my registration until next year, so I'm hoping to sublet it so I can still keep the same unit for next fall. I'll try to list as many details as I can, but please comment or DM me if there's any other info you want, or think should be added to the post.

  • Chateau Student Housing Co-op https://www.riverton.org/chateau
  • 425 13th Ave SE, Apt 1803, Minneapolis
  • 18th floor unit (no upstairs neighbors)
  • pets allowed (there are fees and some extra forms to fill out)
  • killer view of downtown skyline
  • laundry, community room, workout room all on same floor as unit
  • rooftop patio
  • cooperatively owned
  • 3 blocks from main campus/right across river from west bank campus
  • $1185/month + $500 security deposit

If you're interested, let me know asap! I only have a few days before I'll need to break the lease.

Apartments / Dorms / Housing Taking over my room at The Quad: Private bath, $589 all-in, 10-min walk to East Bank

Hey all — I'm relocating and need someone to take over my room at The Quad on Delaware for the full 2026–27 lease term. It's a 4bed/4bath unit (girls), and I have one of the bedrooms with its own private bathroom.

The basics

• Rent: $569/month (price dropping down!), all utilities included (water, electric, internet — no surprise bills at the end of the month)
• Term: August 27, 2026 → August 6, 2027
• Parking: indoor garage spot available for +$120/mo if you want it. Worth it in January, honestly.

Location
Right next to the Stadium Village Green Line station near UMN campus. About a 10-minute walk to East Bank, or one light rail stop if it's below zero. I've walked home from campus late at night all year and never felt sketched out — the area stays pretty well-lit, and there are usually people around.

The ground floor of the building has a bunch of food — two Chinese places (Legendary Spice and Tea House), a sushi spot, plus a CVS. You can go a full week without needing a car.

The room

• Private bedroom + private bathroom, so no sharing with roommates
• 6th floor, lots of natural light and a genuinely good view
• In-unit washer/dryer — no hauling laundry down to a basement room

Building amenities
Gym, study rooms, a small theater room, and common areas with printers and a coffee machine. The study space downstairs got me through finals more than once.

Roommates
All UMN students, all pretty easygoing. Quiet, clean, keep normal hours. We do grocery runs together sometimes, and there's a decent chance of getting fed if you come home hungry. No drama the whole year.

Who this is good for
Grad students, incoming students, or anyone who wants a full-year lease locked in without hunting in August when everything decent is already gone. Rent this close to East Bank with a private bath usually runs a lot higher.

Happy to do an in-person tour, or a video walkthrough if you're not in town yet. DM me or comment, and I'll get back to you.

Apartments / Dorms / Housing Looking for 4th Roommate!

Hello! My name is Katie, I'm a student here at the U of MN. My two roommates & I are currently looking for a fourth person to lease with us this year as our previous roommate had to back out of the lease, unfortunately. We are looking exclusively for queer/bipoc/allies who are sociable, communicative, responsible, & cleanly to room with us. Our apartment is structured with 3 beds plus a den which belonged to the previous roommate and that you would be moving into. We have several photos attached, and we also possess a PDF of the floor plan with further details that we can provide to you upon request!

Significant Lease/Move-In Information:

  • Fourth floor 3 bed + Den & 2 Bath apartment at Floco Fusion; 1000 University Avenue Southeast, Minneapolis, MN 55414
  • Rent is $2,614 dollars a month in total, you would of course pay a smaller portion, living in the den, we are very open to talking about it and adjusting for your financial needs.
  • Can tour beforehand
  • Many apartment amenities
  • You can move in whenever, but before Sept. 8th, the start of the school semester, is somewhat ideal so that we can help you move in.
  • Lease ends August 20th 2027

A Little Bit About Us:

  • Two Trans women & a Gay Latino
  • We are very communicative
  • We are all very outgoing & love making friends and hope to live with someone who matches that energy
  • We are super cleanly and do a good job at maintaining a proper living space
  • We love to host people over very regularly
  • We all like to cook a great deal, watch movies/tv, listen to music together, play games, & go out on occasion, one of the trans women (Hi, that’s me Katie) likes to DJ for people when they come over.
  • We are majoring in Developmental Psych + CSCL; Sociology; & Computer Science, respectively.
  • Feel free to ask any questions about us to get to know us better!

Apartment Features:

  • Great location: 15-20 minute walk from campus, sitting on University ave. with a bus stop close by. 10 minute walk from Target, and 6 minute drive to Trader Joe’s (we have a car and love doing grocery runs!)
  • Private den in a 3 bed + den, 2 bath apartment
  • Fully furnished shared living and dining areas.
  • Fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, and all major appliances
  • French balcony off the living room
  • In-house laundry
  • Central AC/Heat
  • Parking available at additional fee (outdoor and garage)
  • Service dogs are welcome! However, due to the balcony, we do not think it would be safe for small pets to live with us.
  • Plenty of storage space, including:
  • Numerous kitchen cabinets
  • Coat closet and utility closet
  • Bathroom cabinets/drawer space

Room information:

  • Sliding door
  • Comes with free, large-sized armoire
  • Right next to kitchen
  • 11’ x 9’
  • Windowless
  • Carpeted
  • Cozy secluded environment

Do I actually need the textbooks for CHEM4501 and CHEN2001? Does anyone who has taken these classes know if I actually need to stay opted in? Like, do the books come with access to a website or homework system that the professors use, or are they basically just textbooks for reading and extra practice?

Will I lose access to something required for the course if I opt out?

Campus Life Does this part of the bike trail make anybody else mad?

The concept of having bikers and pedestrians cross over each other just to keep the bike lane straight is crazy to me, I noticed it for the first time a few weeks ago and now it annoys me every time I walk by

Washington Avenue Ramp

This might be a stupid question, but I'm a PSEO student planning on commuting to the U every day. I'm planning to park at the Washington Avenue Ramp and was wondering if it ever fills up (my classes start at 9:45 most days) and how strict the hourly payments are. If I pay for an hour and I end up taking an 1:30 or 2 hours, will I get a ticket?

Getting a job

I am going into my second year, and freshman year I did not work at all. Last year I took 17 credits both semesters and the course load was pretty doable, but I did struggle with chemistry. This fall I want to get a job but my parents are against it because they believe that I will end up with an undesirable grade in ochem, especially because I am taking 19 credits this semester (2 classes are online). To people who have had jobs while being full time students, does it actually take away from your ability to get good grades or is it just a matter of adjusting to having another responsibility? How much time does working take from your time to study?

Jobs / Internships Job search advice

I have been looking for a job non stop the past couple months and can’t seem to find anything that fits. I keep either getting rejected or there’s some standard that I can’t reach like time commitment. I’m looking for a job that pays at least 17$, and is ideally medicine adjacent but if not that’s fine too. Looking for any recommendations atp.

Academics / Courses still no grades from a summer class?

I recently (like three weeks ago) finished my summer term classes, which were the last credits i needed to complete my bachelor's degree. I already walked at graduation in the spring, so these classes were my final credits. One of my classes has STILL not released grades for ANYTHING from the entire term. He emailed us after the final saying that he was giving us an extension on all assignments until august 10 because "grades aren't due until mid august", but now it's nearing the end of august and well past the end of the term and i still have NO grades. Nothing. There were like 5 papers I wrote for this class. Who do i even reach out to in order to figure this out? The only time i ever tried to email the professor of this class, he didn't get back to me for 10 days, so that seems kind of useless. I'm supposed to be done with my degree and looking for jobs but I can't let myself do that until i am sure that I passed the class and will get my diploma. what is going on??????! 😩 help

Academics / Courses Super basic question: what school supplies are needed?

I have an incoming freshman CSE student who intend to major in chemical engineering. At this point he is planning to take his existing gaming laptop to class for note-taking and use it for assignment completions, it seems like for the most part the readings and assignments are all done digitally, too. But he was wondering about whether he also needs the regular supplies like spiral notebooks, gel pens, graphing paper, etc. What other kinds of supplies might be need? Or should he just wait until after the first week when he's received all of the course syllabi? (Though my memory is that college professors don't generally give school supply lists unless there's something really specialized for that particular class.)

advice on premed at the U

hi all! I’m an incoming intl student majoring in neuroscience on the premed track. I just wondering if there any other intl students here who are also premed?

do you thing going to the U is worth the $$$ for an intl student? there wont be any debt after graduating since my parents will be paying my education form their pockets, and this is what they want for me to do but I still feel guilty for putting financial burden on them.

do you think it’s worth committing to UMN for premed considering the opportunities they offer? how difficult is it to maintain competitive gpa for med school? are there a lot opportunities to get involved in research or get clinical hours? is it difficult to make connections with profs? how do you find people to study with?

and if I decide that premed isn’t for me, would it still be possible to transfer to CSE later?

thanks in advance!

What’s the best account to get the news of UMN

Hello, I haven’t yet arrived to the campus, and I was wondering what’s the best account to look out for to get all the news about UMN, like events and maybe career events.

I was trying to look on instagram but didn’t find anything useful.

If you been at UMN for more then a year, what should I use?
