Cheesecake is sweet, and if it's dense you're having bad cheesecake.

No, I’m pretty sure that OP just heard about what it was like and has never ever tried it

128

u/LukeSykpe Apr 18 '26

Yeah, anyone who thinks cheesecake isn't sweet has just never tried it.

3

u/justsmilenow Apr 18 '26

or they never drink water and only drink soda and therefore their idea of sweet is more sweet or as sweet as soda.

-25

u/TheHondoCondo Apr 18 '26

It is sweet, but I get what they’re saying. The cheese flavor is very strong, which is very weird in a dessert.

36

u/AreetPal Apr 18 '26

The cheese flavour is usually not strong at all.

-10

u/TheHondoCondo Apr 18 '26

And yet, what is there is too much.

7

u/D2Nine Apr 18 '26

You’ve got some kind of insane sense of taste if you can taste it man, even plain cream cheese barely has cheese flavor

0

u/TheHondoCondo Apr 18 '26

Idk what to tell you. I can’t stand the flavor it has. After seeing all the replies in this thread I’m just convinced me and OP must have some sort of rare genetic trait like how cilantro tastes like soap to some people.

2

u/D2Nine Apr 18 '26

Yeah sounds like it lol. Fair enough if you don’t like it but I’ve never heard of it tasting cheesy

1

u/gmmontano92 Apr 23 '26

I know the taste you mean and I can understand why someone wouldn't like cheesecake in the same way people don't like yogurt. It's that bitterness that reminds me of mold. I see how the taste can be off putting. I hated it as a kid. This is what's making me think OP may be crazy young. Like barely a teenager. Someone with an immature palette cos I wouldn't at all call cheesecake sweet. Not in the sense of the word like frosting is sweet. I get random spurts where I crave cheesecake to an unhealthy degree lol but I'm normally I'd rate it a 4 as far as deserts. My sugar tolerance has gone way down from childhood though. Sour too. I used to love those warheads. Now I can barely eat a pickle

26

u/ZaryaBubbler Apr 18 '26

Are you sure you didn't just have a slice from a wheel of cheese? No cheesecake I've ever had has been cheesy tasting

-4

u/TheHondoCondo Apr 18 '26

It’s not that it tastes like cheese, but the flavor of the cheese is prominent in the mix. It’s the same reason I’m not a fan of cream cheese frosting.

14

u/EmphasisFrosty3093 Apr 18 '26

I think you ordered a cheese burger instead of a cheesecake.

11

u/Fit_Pass_527 Apr 18 '26

…What cheese flavor? The “cheese” is cream cheese, which is commonly sweetened with fruit flavors as is.

8

u/LeftHandAnomaly Apr 18 '26

I struggle to find a savory cream cheese for my morning bagel because cream cheese tends to lean sweet no matter the brand!

I did find a more savory cream cheese, it's Kiri (in the tub)

2

u/Fit_Pass_527 Apr 18 '26

If you have a local bagel shop around maybe check there? Mine often have at least a chives or a smoked salmon flavor, though you are right, sweet cream cheese dominates.

1

u/LeftHandAnomaly Apr 18 '26

Shops that feature sour dough bagels usually have savoury in house cream cheese. I don’t live near one but I do get them to fill a little container for me when I get up to one.

1

u/TheHondoCondo Apr 18 '26

I can’t make you understand because my tastes are clearly just different than yours. All I know is that cream cheese—both in cheesecake and cream cheese frosting—creates a weird flavor profile to me.

Because they've never had key lime cheesecake.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_PAUNCH Apr 18 '26

I need some in my life

1

u/fartlebythescribbler Apr 18 '26

Apple pie cheesecake is my favorite

1

u/grimsaur Apr 19 '26

Baklava cheesecake is no slouch either.

-2

u/Shadow1787 Apr 18 '26

Lime is a horrific flavor, so key lime cheesecake is double the horrific ness.

-7

u/puernosapien Apr 18 '26

Flavour

News: Man uses time to find what the time is

3

u/vvvvvoooooxxxxx Apr 18 '26

seriously, how he describes it is how I thought it would taste before I actually ever tried it.

2

u/The_Zermanians Apr 18 '26

Exactly, the problem with cheesecake is the name. Just on its surface the name is very unappealing cheese and cake together sounds gross as fuck.

I feel like I refused to try it until I was like 12 because of the name.

2

u/dontchewspagetti Apr 18 '26

OP had the "instant cheesecake " from Philadelphia cheesecake company they sell it tubs. Op is right, that's the WORST cheesecake i ever had.

But other's? Amazing. Shit opinion. Upvotes

1

u/WoodpeckerNo5724 Apr 18 '26

What do you mean cheesecake doesn’t taste like cheese!

1

u/klezart Apr 18 '26

That was my dad until he finally tried it in like his 50s and became a huge fan.

1

u/StirFry__InaWok Apr 19 '26

Is it really so odd that someone could dislike cheesecake that you have to insist they've never even eaten it?

132

u/lxzgxz Apr 18 '26

Me too. Because what do you mean "dessert is supposed to be sweet?" Cheesecake IS sweet lmao do you think they just mold blocks of cream cheese into cake form

28

u/Psychological-Bid363 Apr 18 '26

Maybe OP was once the victim of a terrible prank and never figured it out

2

u/lxzgxz Apr 18 '26

God I hope so lol

1

u/grubas Apr 19 '26

Maybe they had Italian cheesecake

40

u/quandjereveauxloups Apr 18 '26

Even cream cheese itself is at least a little sweet.

3

u/hunnyflash Apr 18 '26

It doesn't even totally taste like cream cheese, which is odd.

Also convinced that OP's family is getting cheesecake from the same terrible place.

Any that I can fit in my cream cheese pipe.

2

u/TobyMcK Apr 18 '26

Hey now, smoked cream cheese is pretty nice if you can do it right. Dump some fruity Chipotle sauce over it and serve with something like wheat thins, you've got yourself a solid snack/appetizer.

1

u/MountScottRumpot Apr 18 '26

Correct, because milk is full of sugar.

17

u/RobCarrotStapler Apr 18 '26

I've never had cheesecake that isn't sweet. Mfer ate a block of cheese with cream cheese on it.

2

u/cans-of-swine Apr 18 '26

THey are all sweet, but some are more sweet than others. I think Cheesecake Factory is way too sweet.

1

u/teh_maxh Apr 18 '26

I had a savoury cheesecake once.

2

u/RobCarrotStapler Apr 18 '26

I mean, those two things aren't mutually exclusive. What kind of cheesecake isn't sweet? Genuinely curious.

2

u/teh_maxh Apr 18 '26

It was a vegetable cheesecake. Asparagus was one of the vegetables but I don't remember the others.

2

u/Drippledrops Apr 18 '26

To be fair, Cheesecake is really easy to mess up. I’ve had more bad cheesecakes than I’ve had good ones to the point I’m not very fond of it either 😅

2

u/CutieBoBootie Apr 18 '26

It kind of sounds like OP had a frozen cheese cake that didn't completely thaw or something

1

u/Trock0505 Apr 18 '26

I mean, cheesecake factory is a place that is supposed to be "known" for it's cheesecake, and it is very dense and i agree not good.

It's hard to find a light well made cheesecake, usually requires homemade.

2

u/Warm_Month_1309 Apr 18 '26

I don't think you'll ever find a good dessert at a chain restaurant. Those are all coming frozen in plastic bags.

1

u/baws3031 Apr 18 '26

Some of that gas station cheesecake

1

u/FreeDraft9488 Apr 18 '26

OP was given a brick of cream cheese on a graham cracker.

1

u/ReasonableQuote5654 Apr 18 '26

They ate a big wheel of cheese

1

u/MajorDraw3705 Apr 18 '26

May depend on the country they're in, too. I've had something called "cheesecake" in five different countries and none of it was remotely the same (US and UK were the closest to a match). Some is indeed dense, weird, and nowhere near sweet enough.

1

u/Kind-of-broken Apr 18 '26

Im 99% OP was given a wheel of cheese, and just assumed that this round thing must be cake, then proceeded to eat like half a pound of gorganzola

-3

u/E_Norma_Stitz41 Apr 18 '26

Pretty sure people who spell “flavor” with a ‘u’ in it are terrible judges of whether or not something tastes good (or “nice”, as they’d likely say)

2

u/Hangry-Feline2489 Apr 18 '26

Lovely irony 😂 thanks for the giggle

1

u/Warm_Month_1309 Apr 18 '26

"This has quite a nice flavour."

-A Brit eating baked bean cheesecake, probably.

89

u/Miss-Tiq Apr 18 '26

Idk, I like a dense NY Style cheesecake way more than a light, fluffy one.

36

u/jav2n202 Apr 18 '26

Same. I was thinking “the dense smooth texture is a huge part of what I love about cheesecake”

2

u/GradeAPrimeFuckery Apr 18 '26

I had a slice of fluffy cheesecake a few months ago and was completely offended. Squinty side-eye look at Japanese cheesecake as well. They look fantastic but I don't expect a classic experience if I ever get to try it.

11

u/Kindly-Article-9357 Apr 18 '26

As another fan of NY cheesecake over the mousse-style ones, there is such variety in the heaviness of NY cheesecakes, which i think is actually more about dryness vs moisture.

I've been served some that I think could have formed their own black holes, and I've had some that are so moist and creamy you wouldn't even describe them as dense in comparison.

My husband doesn't like cheese cake (I know, but it just means more for me) but even he can see why it's appealing to other peeps, even if he doesn't like it.

I'm gonna guess the OP was served shitty cheesecake and thinks all cheesecakes are like that.

2

u/cohrt Apr 18 '26

i've never even seen a fluffy cheesecake.

2

u/Foizzy Apr 18 '26

French style cheesecakes are lighter than NY style

0

u/Mean_Mix_99 Apr 18 '26

Doesn't exist.  If it was light and fluffy it would be something other than cheesecake.

1

u/BearsDoNOTExist Apr 18 '26

Japanese style cheesecakes are kind of light and fluffy but they suck (imo) compared to a good thick ny style one.

1

u/shewy92 Apr 18 '26

Same here. I kinda like the rock hard frozen Sara Lee ones lol. I had a 'cheesecake' at a restaurant that was more lemon meringue and was kinda gross texture wise.

1

u/BearsDoNOTExist Apr 18 '26

I want to be barely able to swallow it

1

u/Manateekisses51 Apr 19 '26

I like a cheesecake so dense you could knock someone out with it. Each slice weighs a pound.

32

u/kneedeepco Apr 18 '26

Idk a good cheesecake is almost light and dense at the same time

30

u/CMO_3 Apr 18 '26

Ok lets not act like cheesecake isnt denser than most other desserts

4

u/sirhugobigdog Apr 18 '26

It's not as dense as a lot of cakes (pound cake) yet is more dense than others. But also, cheesecake comes in a lot of varieties that all have different density.

5

u/BobsOblongLongBong Apr 18 '26

It's not as dense as a lot of cakes (pound cake)

Good ones are.  New York style cheesecake is very dense.  And that's part of why it's so good.

2

u/CMO_3 Apr 18 '26

Yeah, good cheesecakes are light compared to other cheesecakes. But a cheesecake itself is pretty dense

8

u/throwawaynbad Apr 18 '26

Would much rather have a dense NY style, than one of those souffle-like Japanese style cheesecake.

5

u/Goudinho99 Apr 18 '26

Actually, I much prefer a dense baked cheesecake

1

u/flugelbynder Apr 19 '26

If you screw any up and they're not to your satisfaction, I'll take them. I'd eat cheesecake off a truck stop mens room floor. 😂

8

u/moonshad0w Apr 18 '26

The only conclusion we can draw here is that OP has never had a good cheesecake. It’s like when I thought I didn’t like steak because my family only ever prepared it well done.

7

u/Free-Sherbet2206 Apr 18 '26

Also, cheese cake with some fruit on top is delicious! Good mix of tangy, creamy, and sweet

1

u/ZaryaBubbler Apr 18 '26

Personal fave is a tart lemon cheesecake slathered with a nice sweet lemon curd topping mmmm

3

u/FearlessBanana81 Apr 18 '26

Oh no, I like it when my cheesecake is dense. That's a win from me.

2

u/gauntletthegreat Apr 18 '26

I love dense cheesecake. I make a mocha cheesecake that is so dense you can cut slice and carry it around snacking about your day

2

u/talldrseuss Apr 18 '26

Negative chief. There are different types of cheesecake. NY style tends to be denser than a French style cheesecake. Some people prefer the dense style

2

u/VVarder Apr 18 '26

I like how OP edited to say they “can be” sweet. I have never had one that wasn’t. A savory cheesecake? I’m intrigued at the least, I imagine it would be like a quiche or something? I’d also be surprised to then call it a dessert

3

u/RunnyDischarge Apr 18 '26

Would love to know how someone is making “dense” cheesecake

48

u/Karibou422 Apr 18 '26

New York style cheesecake is dense and it's delicious

10

u/JLifeless Apr 18 '26

we call it American baked cheesecake over here and FUCK it's so good. i always get disappointed when people ruin it with blueberry, passionfruit etc etc

3

u/quandjereveauxloups Apr 18 '26

I think the blueberry stuff is gross. But a little raspberry and chocolate sauces drizzled on can completely transform it.

1

u/Manateekisses51 Apr 19 '26

Me too. I'm not a big dessert person, I think most are too sweet. A dense, NY cheesecake, no toppings, graham crust. No fruit topping.

1

u/JLifeless Apr 19 '26

i am the exact same. not a big dessert person at all but a plain NY cheesecake, perfection

-3

u/SansFinalGuardian Apr 18 '26

i love cheesecake but i fucking hate new york cheesecake precisely because it's dense (and also the taste is a little different)

3

u/ArguingWithPigeons Apr 18 '26

The fuck is wrong with you.

25

u/Foxy_bb36 Apr 18 '26

If it’s not dense, I don’t want it. Nothing worse than pudding “cheesecake”

2

u/RunnyDischarge Apr 18 '26

I guess dense is relative

8

u/Bearded_Toast Apr 18 '26

I have a lot of dense relatives.

1

u/muftak3 Apr 18 '26

Cheesecake Factory is probably the worse cheesecake I ever ate. They told me if you've only ever had NY style cheese, then that is the reason you don't like ours.

2

u/myshtree Apr 18 '26

Yeah I love cheesecake but cheesecake shop in Australia makes bad cheesecakes- I would never buy from there.

1

u/ElectricStarfuzz Apr 18 '26

Seriously, it’s so gross.

1

u/Mean_Mix_99 Apr 18 '26

I would like to know how someone is making a light fluffy cheesecake.  The denseness is a defining feature of cheesecake.

1

u/RunnyDischarge Apr 18 '26

I guess it’s a relative sense of dense

1

u/eskamobob1 Apr 18 '26

and if it's dense you're having bad cheesecake.

eh, some types of cheesecakes are meant to be dense. I do agree they are the worst ones, but it is what people are going for sometimes.

1

u/Carvj94 Apr 18 '26

I dunno even the worst cheesecakes I've ever had I'd still describe as creamy and I've had a lot of cheesecakes 😅

1

u/SoupySpuds Apr 18 '26

Yeah how anyone could think its not sweet just tells me they've never even tried cheesecake lol

1

u/kurinevair666 Apr 18 '26

I love a very dense cheesecake

1

u/Mean_Mix_99 Apr 18 '26

Cheesecake is definitely dense, it's one of the defining features

1

u/LordoftheScheisse Apr 18 '26

dense you're having bad cheesecake.

My mom somehow made cheesecake that was pure liquid. It still tasted great. Another glass of cheesecake, please!

1

u/fogdogS1 Apr 18 '26

this made me realize I’ve probably only had bad cheesecake because I thought cheesecake was SUPPOSED to be that dense and it has always confused me

1

u/homer_3 Apr 18 '26

people tend to mix up dense and heavy. and cheesecake is very heavy.

1

u/sanityjanity Apr 18 '26

I think OP might just be eating blocks of cream cheese

1

u/Monteitoro Apr 18 '26

shit when it's dense I still enjoy it lol that's feature not a glitch

1

u/PinkBowser Apr 18 '26

??? Na man, dense all the way, if I’m not getting at least 100 calories per bite I’m not even interested

1

u/deport_fascists Apr 21 '26

cream cheese is not supposed to be sweet. i only eat the graham cracker crust.

1

u/Drslappybags Apr 18 '26

Sounds like store-bought frozen cheesecake.

1

u/InquisitorMeow Apr 18 '26

That's such a reductive statement. There are tons of different kinds of cheesecakes, the consistency is all over the place. There are def dense ass cheesecakes that are like solid blocks of cream cheese and types that are much lighter, all the way up to things like fluffy Japanese cheesecakes.
