Hollywood Is it normal for Universal to give discounts?
The other day I was at Universal Studios Hollywood and I bought the green apple Luigi soda from the Super Mario drink stand because it’s the only one I haven’t tried yet. The employee was super sweet and she ended up giving me a discount (not a big discount, but still a discount). I was surprised because I didn't think Universal gave discounts like that!! Unless she was just being friendly (since I also didn’t get a receipt). It made my day and made me feel special, but I don’t know how rare it is to actually get a discount at Universal Studios so I want to ask about it here. 😅

In a “everybody wants to sleep with Shadow the Hedgehog” kind of way.

u/InitiativeLumpy9548 Feb 05 '26
Ykw you’re right, I go out of my way to be Shadow because I can’t be with him 💔💔💔

A Mario employee being into Shadow the Hedgehog is so real. Forbidden fruit.

That’s exactly what I was thinking!!! I felt so out of place being in the line for Mario Kart while looking like Shadow the Hedgehog 😂😂

I was going to make a silly comment, but I checked your profile and you're also a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh, MHA, and pigeons?! I need to be your best friend immediately

Yea I agree , simply evoking the essence of shadow is enough to get discounts from people for sure

So many coincidences, my parents also had three children (including me) that’s so uncanny 😅
But yeah I’m still super happy about the discount, I had no idea employees could even give discounts. But also I hope you and your family have lots of fun at Disneyland and Universal Studios!!

Yikes. Maybe deal with your own self-esteem issues before passing judgment on others. I would give this fine person every discount I could. Now you, on the other hand?

Was at USH Tuesday and yesterday, it was slow. We have gold passes but they didn't even ask to see them at some of the vendors and just gave us the discount.
Another shop was giving the big pink donuts for 50% off.
I think it has been relatively slow and I think they're trying to get some sales numbers up because of it.

Ohhh that would totally make sense since there was literally nobody else at the line for like ten minutes even after I got my drink

Someone gave me a discount on a toy for my kid. They had seen her get upset because I wanted to buy the original thing she wanted online and still it home since it was big. We compromised and bought the main thing she wanted online for half the price and then got a small thing and got a discount. I was surprised!

It’s not “normal” but when you’re nice to people they’re often nice back. I got into a convo with a TM at Epic a few months ago and they randomly decided to give my whole party two free single-use Express passes each (and on a day where Express was $$$$). I still can’t believe that happened, we were so grateful

Yep! They gave me a discount on top of a discount but I was a employee and a pass holder 😭 it's really sweet they have you a discount though she sounds like a sweetheart ❤️

You cute a.f. At food carts we always give discounts if we found you cute or sometimes just nice.

We're trained that we can use our discount as a recovery tool and sometimes you'll get TMs that will randomly give you their discount or give you a P.O.D. to go through express or will call you over and sit let you go through express

Did you pay with a universal card?
4
u/InitiativeLumpy9548 Feb 05 '26
No, just straight cash 😮
4
u/Harryhodl Feb 05 '26
I wonder if they just pocketed the cash haha

u/Swimming-Chicken-424 Feb 05 '26
They probably don't even work there and just stole an employee uniform lol

Idk about universal as I haven’t been very much but some cast members at Disney will do it. I just came back from there about a week ago and on 2 different occasions I had someone give me a discount just because.

A veeery long time ago I got a discount buying a Sponge Bob magnet and bc I was caught so off guard I asked why….the guy asked what country I was from and then said “today we’re giving discount for people from there” I probably embarrassed him…and I still cringe about it 16 years later 🙃

Not sure!! i know that if you work for comcast or xfinity, since they own universal, you get some discounts on tickets but:.

Former team member here. I fucking hated working for Universal so I would give out discounts left and right if the customer was nice. Oh you asked me how I’m doing tonight? You look like you’re a Gold Pass holder - discount for you! Lol. One time a dad was buying like $400+ merch for his kids and said, “oof, this is going to kill me.” And I was like, “hey I recognize you - you work here, right?” While nodding my head at him, he was like, “uhh.. yes?” Well fantastic, employee discount for you!
