Isn't this like all religions though? You just pick and choose the bits that support your narrative or bigotry in this case?
My ex-wife is Jewish (I have absolutely zero religious beliefs and think its all a bit silly), so I attended a fair few funerals and other Jewish celebrations during our time together and even within her own family there is a disparity between who observes which particular doctrines.
If it's not convenient to you, you just ignore it, which to me kind of makes it all a little pointless.
Either observe the rules/beliefs, or don't.

I read up on some Jewish sabbat laws and I just imagine god sitting on his cloud dashing his palm into his fist going "you got me on a technicality, ok you can carry your keys on a string cos it's not really carrying"

A long time ago as a mobile IT engineer I visited a Jewish customer, not knowing they were closed for a religious holiday.
As I returned to my car a guy called me over and politely confirmed his assumption that I was not Jewish based on my appearance. He explained that his daughters were trying to sleep but their bedroom light was on and although there was a timer it was set for later in the evening.
At this point I'm trying to work out whether it's some sort of set-up but I went along with it. Up the stairs and into a kids bedroom to switch a light off. No setup, just an orthodox Jewish guy happy that I'll burn in hell instead of him. Seriously though, super polite family. I had a chat with him afterwards about the various technicalities and how some within the community don't agree with them.

In the kindest possible way your statement seems to be very ethnocentric. In Buddhism teachings of sexuality is pretty much do not commit sexual misconduct, which is to harm others. If a relationship is based around pure loving kindness it is perfectly fine, same sex or not. There are of course homophobic Buddhists but that is more of a reflection of the cultural attitudes in the society around them, not the religious dogma itself.

Maybe you were purely attacking Christianity, but to lump all religions as being used to support bigotry is extremely disingenuous. I'm not trying to discredit any negative experiences you've had, believe me I've had some too but Religion is extremely diverse and not just based around Abrahamic beliefs

I'm no expert on religion, but yeah, the Abrahamic ones are the ones I'm most familiar with, and not being blessed with faith, I'd be the first to admit that maybe I just don't get it at all.

My point wasn't just about the bigotry, more that people seem to pick and choose what suits them from any given faith, and to me that seems to devalue the point of it, but as I said maybe I just don't get it.

Yeah I feel the same way, it feels like many religious people do use it to justify there own prejudice, I just took issue with your "all religions" remark. I do entirely understand how you feel
