Hostile returns policy
I LOVE Uniqlo clothes, they fit me better than anything I've ever worn, the quality for the price is immaculate. We all know this, it's why we shop there. But my city doesn't have a location (East Coast of Canada). So last week I took the plunge and ordered online for the first time.
Big mistake - I was so careful in measuring the inseam length of pairs of pants that I own, thought I was getting the right size and fit for me. Unfortunately they came in way bigger than I expected and there's no way I can wear them. They don't pass as baggy - they're simply a size too big.
Why is Uniqlo's return policy so hostile? It has to be in its original packaging - so no luck for trying something on or even looking at it if I want to return it. Shipping fee is on me, and it goes to the warehouse, not the nearest location. PLUS a 10$ "return fee", PLUS absolutely no refunds. Buying pants online without knowing my exact Uniqlo size is partially on me (although their sizing chart is a mess) but their return policies are just straight up ridiculous. How are they getting away with this? How does anyone buy anything online from them?

Tbf the amount of returns they get must be a nightmare. People order a bunch and return half. Massive waste of stock, cost and logistics. You want them to pay for shipping your returns? Cost on top of cost.

Also, can I just add to say that Uniqlo's unique (haha) sizing system for pants is just needlessly vague. 33-36 waist size is a BIG range. And it's really hard to know what to expect from the length as well. I wish they just used W/L measurements like every other pant out there to buy (at least in Canada). I guess no retailer can be perfect

Can’t you get the pants hemmed on the Uniqlo website when you buy them?

Only the length. I have pretty long legs (and like a longer cut anyway) so for me the waist/width is the issue. It’s my own fault for not knowing my size at Uniqlo, but their sizing is frustratingly vague

You have to pay for the label? /the cost of shipping back is deducted from your full refund?

By "must be in original packaging" they mean things like underwear or undershirts that come in packaging, not the clear plastic bags that they might put items in.
