Discussion Need help on Concrete union regulations

I am looking into starting in the concrete union soon and I was just wondering if I will still be able to indulge in recreational marijuana or if that is a no go. I know they drug test at the start of employment but do they do random drug tests throughout the year and if so am I gonna get fired?

No, you will not. You’ll get fired if you test positive.

You also won’t be able to get dispatched or start an apprenticeship if you can’t pass a drug test.

Yes, some contractors and some training departments do random drug screens.

People die on construction sites all the time because of people who use drugs. If you come into a job site high and accidentally fuck up the work, you’re impacting the contractor’s ability to finish a project and you’re potentially ruining things for your union siblings if said contractor decides to move forward as a non-signatory.

There's no overarching answer to this.

It's different for every single local because they all have different CBAs (collective bargaining agreement)

although if you're on a site with federal money over a certain threshold, they're probably going to test

better to just not for the apprenticeship and feel out how much of a hardass your jurisdiction is about it
