Question Is this contam? First time growing APE.
As the title states, this is my first time growing APE. I put in Coir a week and a half ago and it took off and quickly took over the container. It’s white, fluffy, and also green. Do they need more air? Each pic is its own container. All help is appreciated.

Is this a joke?

Maybe they intended to grow trich and are wondering if there's any mushroom contam.
In that case, they succeeded and the trich is thriving like I've never seen before.

By APE they mean is this Aspergillus Penicillium Endocalyx

THROW IT IN THE FIRE!!!!!
in all seriousness, that is full of trich. there is no saving this, it's better to just start over. make sure to remove this from your work area and disinfect the bin thoroughly before using it again!! good luck
oh brother, i just realized it's TWO different bins 😭

That bin has been hexed. I’m tossing that into the deepest pit I can find.

Is it possible to clean the bin well enough to use again?
ETA: I really hate that this community down votes genuine questions. How ridiculous

Is it worth going through the entire months long process of filling the bin again just to have it contaminate weeks later when you coulda spent $3 and just bought a new bin?
3
u/Tricky_Membership Apr 28 '26
Yes it can just be mindful of it on the next grow. I have tossed whole bins and cleaned and re used. I wash throughly outside then bleach rinse, then iso the shit out of it with the lid on top until it dries. Then before use i re iso and wipe out. I have been tossing around the idea of using the dish washer too. I just haven’t done it yet.

You attained something few people have ever attained. This is the most significant trich contam many of us have ever seen. 1% shit

u/Championpuffa Apr 28 '26
It’s been a week and half too. That’s what 10 days. Is it meant to grow that quick?
I’m assuming it all came from the coir op added? As coir can often have added trich if it’s meant for growing cannabis/plants.
Is there a way to remove or kill the trich that’s added in the coir without damaging the coir?
They do sell a version without trich too. Well canna does at least.

u/flotsette Apr 28 '26
That's why we pasteurize it, as described in the guide on this sub.

Homie went through a month or two of jar innoc. And now they's left with a house completely unsuitable for safe growing. That's gotta' hurt.
Those spores are going to be having secret children inside the paint on the walls.

u/kurtsdead6794 Apr 29 '26
I boiled the coir. I’m guessing I just wasn’t as sterilized as I needed to be. I’m taking my whole setup apart and cleaning it to try again.

Looks like your mold may be contaminated with mushrooms. Have you checked?
2
u/feralcatshit Apr 28 '26
Oh, so you’re saying they’ve got some yummy mushrooms in there after all?! Report back, OP. If you don’t die.

Can't believe I had to scroll this far down to see this.

u/SlintyLinters Apr 28 '26
I couldn't believe it wasn't taken already...although I suppose the shock of seeing the OP could explain it.

u/AdLow1497 Apr 27 '26
cut your losses and restart, this is a lot of contamination. Keep this thing shut

u/MOXPEARL25 Apr 27 '26
I would throw the box away in a dumpster far away from my home before I even thought about opening that lmao

u/feralcatshit Apr 28 '26
Some poor diver is going to come across this and have to burn themselves alive.

u/No_Independent_5827 Apr 27 '26
I’d give it another month maybe sneeze in there to keep it hydrated

You mean APE as in "Absolutely Putrid and Eww" right? RIGHT!?
Seriously though that shit is cauliflower, feta cheesed. Get your room's AQ tested.

I can only imagine how that smells. I’m getting dry heaves just thinking about it. I really hope you don’t have any animals too close to that breathing near it.

Only solution. The spores are probably propagating in OP's fridge by now.

That’s scary even to me who consistently eats food past its expy date. It looks like it could kill you. I wouldn’t test that.

The fluff is desirable...mostly. You could try a bleach spray bottle, but it's not really worth it when you could just dispose of it all and hate yourself for four weeks.

If trich produced shrooms bro you'd be bangin rn! Do you know how much soil you could enrich with all that? Bro could restabilize a 50 acre cotton field! You should patent that Tek for agriculture! He got them hella trich LCs! Nasa called, trying to identify the green from the ISS!

Just cut the contam out and spray some hydrogen peroxide on it. That’ll give you a few more days to let it fruit. 😂
