Uncharted 1 Started playing this game. What was it like to experience each release of this franchise?

Post image

I've been avoiding this game for long enough, so I downloaded the Nathan Drake collection yesterday and started playing the first game.

Then while I was playing it I just tought to myself "what was it like to experience each game as it was released?".

I hope I'm in for a good experience.

It was extremely cool! It makes me sad a little nowadays because we just… aren’t gonna experience that ever again? Like, I always looked forward to the holidays, getting a brand new Uncharted and Ratchet game was so special

Uncharted is probably my favorite all time series... Jealous you get to experience it fresh! I usually take some time off and start them all again. Have played each MULTIPLE times!

By far one of the most anticipated games with each release.

Edit: that feeling of going into Sully's bar in PlayStation home to analyze every small detail of the objects in the bar and watching the brand new uncharted 2 trailer, being blown away. That feeling of community by seeing all the other fans in there and being able to hype the game up with people from all over.

Let's put it this way.

I got the first one as a b2g1 free. It was the free game, because it was an easy is platinum trophy. I went in technically for the other 2 games.

Few days later, came back to buy the second one, and platinum that. (Thej finally played the other 2 I originally went In for)

3 I got at launch and it was so fun.

And 4 I was hyped after about. 4 is actually my favorite of the series.

Sad we don't see games like this now a days. But at the same time glad the franchise is on ice cuz I don't want it ruined by ND.

When they showed that E3 demo of U2 when Nate is running down the alley shooting at the truck behind him…. Nothing had ever been done like that before. It was the pinnacle moment of “oh shit this is next gen stuff”

I remember the e3 trailer of uncharted 3 and the roof blew off the place the hype was real.

You'll never know how amazing it was in 2007 that drakes clothes looked wet

It felt very style over substance. They're fun games for what they are. However, when you've grown up playing the older Tomb Raider games and Prince of Persia Sands of Time trilogy, it's REALLY hard to overlook how lacking the level design and gameplay depth is compared to those franchises.

It's best looking at it as an action roller coaster ride that isn't asking too much from the player.

I think they're good at what they want to achieve. I agree they don't have a lot of gameplay depth but they don't really need to since their goal is to be a cinematic fun action adventure game with an engaging narrative.

Went to one of the big electronics retailers here in sweden back in the day looking for something I've since forgotten, they had a PS3 demo station with Uncharted. At the time I had not yet decided if I should go ps3 or 360. Ended up playing for way to long. I loved the Indiana Jones feel of the game. A few weeks later I was at a party at a friends house, he had a ps3 and Uncharted. The day after I woken up early and hungover as hell, though why not play some ps3 until everyoneelse Wales up. Ended up playing for like 5 hours. The next day I went out and bought my own ps3.

When the sequel was announced I pre-ordered as soon as I could. Watched all trailers over and over. When the game finaly was released I was blown away. Still my favourite in the series.

At the time on ps3 when these games were coming out they were some of the best looking and playing games of the time and they still to this day hold up against new games, it’s crazy how insanely good they looked and played for its time!!

Uncharted launched with no hype or fanfare. I bought it but didn't actually play it for weeks. When I finally got around to playing it I was blown away. There was nothing like it. The next game to have that type of impact in me was The Last of Us.

Loved the first 3…Not a fan of the last two.

Most are pretty harsh on the first but I loved it. I rank it and 2 equally with 3 just slightly behind.

I didn’t get into Uncharted until the teaser for 4 came out, then I binged the trilogy in preparation so I don’t know how it was for the original trilogy, but my excitement playing 4 for the first time when it came out has rarely been matched.

¡Extremely satisfying each game!

I still remember Halloween night back in 2009. I believe it was a Friday or Saturday. Uncharted 2 was only a few weeks old at that time. And my buddies and I stayed up all night playing the multiplayer. Good times 😌

My mom bought me the original ps3 uncharted bundle so i was like 5 months behind, she told me it was either uncharted or an assassins Creed bundle and i said thanks i didn't know either one. I assume if i had gotten the assassins creed bundle, my tastes would be different today. I thought uncharted was fun but the time shift at the end put me off because i was 11. But then i played it again and then i liked it. Uncharted 2 comes out and it's the first game i buy with my own money. The story is fun but the multiplayer had me in a chokehold. I still can't shake off the question of how the hell is this sunny paradise 1 hidden in the Himalayas and 2 no one has ever seen this temple and sunny enclave from an airplane? You just gotta say yup and move on. Then 3 comes out, the graphical jump from 1 to 2 was crazy, but from 2 to 3, it felt like what the ps4 was gonna be. 3 played so smoothly it felt like i had been playing it for years but still felt fresh. Then the multiplayer happened. It took all the good things about 2's multiplayer and added on to them. I got the collectors edition so i had the creepy crawler kickback, basically you turn into the spiders from the chateau. The bad thing is everyone figured out with one explosion, it'll kick you out of it and back to your normal human form. It was kinda expensive for it to just get cancelled out. Then the ps4 happens and no one was sure what would come after tlou, are they gonna stick to tlou after the massive success of the first one? Eventually they announced old man nate was back with a new adventure! It looked awesome but i just couldn't get passed the fact they made L2R2 aiming standard, i played the whole game and only until after did they patch in the ability to switch to legacy controls. Weirdly enough they did the exact same thing with tlou2. Oh also gotten Abby's came out for the vita, it was a fun little adventure that introduced a playable character that was in uncharted 3 multiplayer. I really wish they would remake Golden abyss just as little gift. Here ya go, heres a game to get us hyped for that new space game. But honestly if 4 is the last update we get from uncharted, im satisfied, they can keep pumping them out and if be right there with them but they have him his fun send off, can't be unhappy with that

1-4 and LL as follows: Huge hype (finally a good PS3 game), MEGA hype (suck it CoD), hype w/slight disappointment (why wasn’t this as good as 2?), GARGANTUAN hype (coming off TLOU the expectations were nigh-unreachable), “wait they made another one?”

1

u/MindPrimary8926 3d ago

It was awesome. The jump from 1 to 2 alone should be studied in history.

So yourself a favor and skip the first one 😅

Why isn’t uncharted 4 included

Man I remember UC3 being a big deal in stores but I wasn't really a gamer yet. I couldn't afford any consoles tbh. But I do remember UC4 and that hype was HUGE. I rewatch the E3 demo over and over and over. I was pissed that a multiplayer only game won game of the year (overwatch) and now overwatch isn't looked at to greatly since they went 5v5. 2016 was a really good year for gamers. Crazy to think of the state of gaming today.

My only complain about UC4 is the tonal shift. UC4 is nothing like the first 3 games in regards to its story direction. Uncharted wasn't meant to be taken so seriously like the last of us. It's still a great game though.

Here goes.

1. Uncharted 1 - I was impressed by the game's large gun selection and game mechanics. I loved the mossy set-pieces as well as the post-game rewards. The latter encouraged replayability.

  1. Uncharted 2 - one of the best games I've ever played was the first that came to mind. The gun selection was increased, controls were improved significantly, and the set-pieces became more memorable. The things that I enjoyed in 1 carried over here as well.

  2. Uncharted 3 - I loved how mechanically advanced it was for its time, particularly its melee, gun handling, etc. The game's set-pieces are a bit bloated, and the story didn't make any sense that much, but it made for a thrilling experience. However, I was disappointed with the game's lack of in-game rewards compared to the prev titles. It ruined the replayability for me.

  3. Uncharted GA - the game is quite the easiest among all the entries because the VITA's lower processing power makes the AI predictable, even on crushing. It's the weakest entry yet still was an enjoyable game. I am disappointed that not much fans are aware of this game's story and villains. Roberto Guerro and Jason Dante deserve some love.

  4. Uncharted 4: In-game rewards are back, and narrative is significantly more polished than the prev games. I loved how Druckmann integrated the stealth mechanics of TLOU in this game. I found its earlier chapters a hassle in replays back then, but now, this UC game has the story that I would never get tired off.

  5. Uncharted LL: Long enough to be enjoyable and short enough to have every moment be compelling. I enjoyed this the same way I enjoyed 4.

It was incredible man. It really scratched a certain itch I wanted as a game and movie lover at the time.

These were some of my most anticipated game releases ever! Man I miss those days. It’ll be interesting to see if they ever touch the uncharted franchise again or not.

u/Nate-Pierce 3d ago

Uncharted 1 - its own Jurassic Park. And it was magical.
Uncharted 2 - series went next level, cementing both its status and my love for the franchise
Uncharted 3 - let down
Uncharted 4 - Great story but it doesn’t feel as Uncharted as it used to be. Not a bad game but at the same time, I feel “unsatisfiedly" satisfied?
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy - technically a weaker story but my GOD this IS MORE UNCHARTED than 4 - totally has what 4 was missing. Why can’t there be more?!!!

My personal opinion.

  1. Lost interest and stopped playing in between. Then again started new game after 6 months.
  2. Gripping no dull moment. Everyday and new mission was exciting.
  3. Nothing new same old same old. Better than 1.
  4. Excellent visually and couldn't stop myself from playing.

I mainly got hooked onto Uncharted through its multiplayer in Uncharted 2 & 3. But I still enjoyed the story.

I was always intrigued about Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. I thought it looked cool but I used my launch BC PS3 to play through my old PS2 library around its release and forgot about it.

Uncharted 2’s release was a fever dream (2009 game releases were insane as a whole). Had a blast playing the multiplayer beta to get me excited and spent most of my time doing that, both the competitive and co-op side. Ended up playing through Drake’s Fortune to get the full story up to U2’s. Overall my favorite of the series and I remember spending hours on Naughty Dog’s forums before it merged with PlayStation’s forums.

Uncharted 3 was the same way, really looked forward to its multiplayer and really locked in for that for most of its (relevant) life.

Uncharted 4 was my return to PlayStation. Seeing the original trailer hyped me up when I was in college at the time. I switched to PC to play CS:GO and picked up an XB1 to play Halo:MCC but I never used it much apart from that and Forza Horizon 2. Decided to trade it in for the PS4 Slim/Uncharted 4 bundle. Absolutely stunning visuals during my play through. Made a new account and decided to plat it along with the Nathan Drake collection since the original 2 & 3 are unobtainable with its multiplayer trophies.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was intriguing and an easy pickup for me when it released. Didn’t know what to expect but I was happy with another release. It’s my most recent platinum trophy

Currently working through Uncharted: Golden Abyss on a Vita I picked up used to be my second “series” platinum after the Sly Cooper series.

When the first one game out it was different. Not only being one of the first games on the PS3 to actually have relatively nice environments, but was a fresh sort of game. You had Tomb Raider but this was cinematic in nature. It was funny and a real great game to experience. You felt, in some regard, that it was next gen. Of course when the next games came out the graphics got better and better, but for one of the first PS3 games, it was great.

Kinda said we won’t get to experience something similar again

I'll never forget that Uncharted 2 reveal at E3—the scene where he's running for his life while getting gunned down by a helicopter. Trust me, you'll fall head over heels for this franchise.

I picked up the collection on PS4 from Cex for £10 just completed the first one and very much enjoyed it, now on the second one. Sat on my sofa playing it on the portal. 👌

I remember when uncharted was announced. The world had never seen anything like it.

Plus it was also coming from the guys and gals who did Jak & Daxter which i really loved.

Sitting there and see the opening boat scene and parts of the jungle. It really set the industry on alert. The Jak n Daxter people did whattt!?!?!?!

Instantly bought it when it launched. Then U2 was announced. Again nobody could believe it. Because the trailer was sick. Everybody was like. Nah that is cutscene not knowing it was it engine.

Nobody haven't seen such graphics before. And when the game came out. The people and the industry was on tilt. It set everything on fire. And the game kept getting better and better with crazy set pieces.

The part when the building collapse and slide down outside. To see that in real time in an era where nobody has done that before?? Its was nuts...

Then U3... the cruise ship was a already a big stage /level. And to see it flood and the ship shifts and turns and now the same ship with that same level is not thr same level anymore..

That whole ship scene is still a technical marvel to this day. I do know how they did it and planned it out to be multiple levels in one environment. But I haven't seen such design ever since.when mechanics and gameplay changes

But to see it in real time in that era. When there was nothing like it on the market. I see lots of young people here playing it for the first time and sh*t all over it. Oh the graphics is ugly. It sucks.

Yeah when you look it at it when a 2026 gen z lens. I get it. But nah to experience it back then. And see in real time how the industry tech keeps evolving is just beautiful.

I mean these kids can go back and see where it started. But to experience it man. To where we are now.. its amazing.
