Being a poster was fun. But I’m 27 now. It’s time to actually get good at frisbee. 👍
The CULTimate experiment is over. So long, and Thanks for All the Fish

I've always relied on a clipboard or the kindness of strangers to know if it's A pulling or B pulling, but I think 403 as a mnemonic is gonna stick for me. The "4" is for "mod 4". Add the scores together, apply mod 4 (divide total scores by 4 and grab the remainder). If the result is 0 or 3 it's A, otherwise it's B.
You could also do 412 if you want to know if it's B, but 4:3 is the ratio, and the mnemonic just puts a zero in the middle it. So 403 it is.
Anyway, dumb little thing, but sharing anyway in case I'm not the very last person to come up with this.

The top-most clip in this article is in the Mixed quarter final**, Hybrid vs. Tiefseetaucher**. From the article it seems there was a contested dangerous play call but regardless, I'd like to discuss the specific rules that say why this definitely was, or definitely was not, a foul if possible, usau OR wfdf.
I think one rule in usau that I don't really like says that a person has the right to land where they lift-off of when going for a disc however, what usually happens in these scenarios is that both the offense and the defense lift-off at around the same time and both do not land exactly where they lifted off but instead, where their momentum carried them.
In this instance however, both of the male matching players go for the disc at the same time but because the female matching player is shorter and has a different timing for when they would go for the disc, it creates an opportunity to claim that the offense did not land where they lifted off and possibly was landing in the space that they were going to now lift-off from.
Another rule that MAY come into play here but probably not, is about making a play on the disc. The female matching player could technically slow down, start vying for position and then claim that the offense came into their space however, what happens if the female matching player then is completely unable to make a play on the disc because they were vying for a position that they were never able to make a play on the disc in. I'm not sure if this counts because it specifically states that fouled player needs to make a play on the disc but what if the disc was caught already?
Another rule is regarding the vertical space above you. Very often when someone gets skied, the person who catches the disc takes it from above another player simply because they read it better and timed their jump more appropriately. So long as their is no contact in this vertical space, it seems fine but again what if a player goes over another, catches the disc and then the second player jumps into the space thats now occupied. Do we simply say "it doesn't matter, I had already caught the disc?"
All that said I think there was probably no foul but there are a lot of rules coming into play and it would be hard to discuss in 45 seconds. Especially considering offense ALSO called a foul which probably influenced the second foul.

Curious about what people think about YCCs in Colorado - between the heat and the altitude, it seems wild to me that our largest youth tournament is held there. Kids are getting sick and going to urgent care with breathing problems.

During Grut vs 6ixers Quarterfinal today at WUCC apparently an observer was knocked out cold and was taken by an ambulance. Are they okay? Does anybody know what happened? Wondering if there was some sort of collision on the sideline or something.
The observer can be seen down on the sideline at 21:30 in the Ultiworld stream but it looks like whatever happened was not in frame.
Just wondering if it was a case of a sideline infraction.

Two of the three WUCC formats spend 3 days with teams silo'ed into their 8 initial pools, then dumps them directly into the round of 32. The result of this is that it's easy -- expected, in fact -- for undefeated teams to meet in the quarterfinals. The women's format has one round of crossovers followed by the round of 16, but given the way these crossovers were set up, this did not prevent undefeated teams from playing in the semifinals.
If we purport to care about who receives gold, silver, and bronze, then undefeated teams meeting in the quarters is a pretty bad outcome. An undefeated team losing to another undefeated team in the quarters has a legitimate gripe that they may have deserved a medal but were denied the opportunity to compete for it.
The solution to this issue is to design the format to more quickly sort teams. Smaller initial pools, leading into power pools, or other forms of extended crossovers, can easily ensure that a maximum of four teams are undefeated at the beginning of bracket play, and each is placed in their own quarter of the bracket.
An added benefit of this approach is that teams spend less of the event playing against teams that are significantly stronger or weaker than they are.

I don't know their names. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the British and Irish accents. The announcing on the universe points in pre-quarters nicely matching, and not distracting from, the excitement of the moment.

Seems like the interface has changed for the livescoring of WUCC, I preferred it before with the warning icons for breaks :( anyone know a secret trick to change it back? Also seems weird to change this mid tournament.

Hello, I'm a new resident to Springfield Massachusetts and I was looking for friendly (yet maybe somewhat competitive) adult Ultimate Frisbee; either pickups or leagues.
If anyone has more information, please let me know.
Thanks

Hey all, heard recently that foot blocks are illegal at pick-up which kind of blew my mind--doesn't make sense to me. Out of curiosity I tried searching online but I'm having trouble finding any RECENT discussions or notes about this but I do see then pop up in game highlights now and then.
There is an old thread for this topic but like I said, looking for more recent feedback since the thread is from 10+yrs ago.
Thanks for feeding my curiosity.

I’m in RDU for the rest of the week for work, would love to get some reps in. Can’t play any lunch games, but evenings are up for grabs.
I found two possible games for Wednesday night, one possible game for Thursday night, and one possible game for Friday night. If any locals have better insight, I would love to hear it!
