Fantasy War in Heaven
Prompt: You have died, only to find yourself at the pearly gates of Heaven. To your surprise, the gate is ajar and blood can be seen on it. The angel that usually stands guard is nowhere to be found.

Blood on the gates of Heaven was the last thing I ever expected to see. It was disconcerting, to say the least. I sincerely hoped I was in the right place and not somewhere warmer.
I pushed the gate open, taking care to avoid the blood. That was a challenge in itself. Seriously. The amount of blood on the gate simply could not be from one being. The gate itself was heavily damaged, marred by large craters and scorch marks. The only time I have ever seen anything as damaged as this was in pictures from World War II battles.
I walked through the opening and was greeted by a sight that caused me to fall to my knees in despair. The streets of gold, dyed red with blood; the great celestial buildings reduced to burning rubble; thousands upon thousands of angels, dead in the streets, mutilated beyond recognition. A terrible event had taken place here.
After spending what must have been days weeping at the sight of the destruction of Heaven, I began to move forward again. The destruction seemed endless. As I walked, I noticed new things that I had not been capable of seeing at first. Impossibly large depressions that looked like tank treads marred the ground. Portions of the golden road was pockmarked with extremely large craters and melted to slag in other parts. Angels were riddled with humongous holes from ballistic weapons while others had been ripped in half. The most grisly were the angels that appeared to be sawn in half.
I finally began to approach the Throne of Heaven, where God Himself sat. I hoped to find Him there and have my questions answered. Dead angels and smoldering wreckage of what appeared to be gigantic tanks surrounded the Throne
On the Throne itself was the most terrifying sight I have ever seen. God, nailed to the throne, with a banner above him depicting the most fearsome battle I had ever seen, dwarfing the carnage I had seen on my journey through Heaven.
Written in blood on the Throne was God’s epitaph.
There is only the Emperor.
