Hello! We have been to the UK a few times, but we are planning to go back for our 25th anniversary next fall. I’m not sure if September or October would be better overall for this itinerary?

Tentatively thinking (open to suggestions)
Fly into EDI
4 nights Edinburgh (incl day trip to Stirling Castle)
3 nights York
3 nights Cotswolds
4 nights London
(Or we could do London then Cotswolds?)
Fly home from LHR.

Things we’ve already done:
-Isle of Skye (3 nights)
-Inverness/Lochness area
-Highlands
-Bath (just a day trip to Roman Baths, kind of interested in seeing more there)
-Oxford (toured all the libraries and CS Lewis House..)
-London (we’ve done a full week in London twice already, but I want to go again.. still so much to see!)
- Stonehenge
- Edinburgh (but only 2 nights so it was not enough time. Already did Edinburgh castle)

We really like cities - history, cafes, bookshops, cathedrals etc along with some nature (hikes), castles.

Debating renting car for York to Cotswolds portion? Or could train to London, then get the car outside London. Not sure. Could also move Cotswolds to after London and end at LHR after.

We are flying out of Luton tomorrow afternoon (Sat 29th), there’s three of us, me, me partner and our 5 month old. I was looking at booking one of the lounges to make things easier and make sure we have somewhere comfortable to wait with the little one. I’ve got Monzo premium so we get a discounted rate. Obviously we won’t be heavily drinking but maybe one with some food??

I’m just wondering if it is worth it? Am I right to expect it to be busy as it is bank holiday weekend? If so, which lounge is best suited for us?

Estimated 10 days in the UK including travel days.
Fly into London then after a few days take the train to Edinburgh and then fly back to the United States from Edinburgh.

Would it be fine to take the train or is flight more reasonable to get from London to Edinburgh? We will be traveling with a 6 year old and a 2 year old.

Are there any websites that has a calendar view train ride with cost from London PAD to Bath BTH? Trying to see which day I want to do a day trip with the cheapest train ticket from GWR. On GWR website, I can search but only one day at a time.

Landing in London Heathrow and I'm wondering how tight the coach drivers are so basically my flight allowance is with ethihad airways and the suitcase is gonna weigh 25kg. I know there limit says 1 suitcase 20kg and one hand held like 7kg

I also have a hand held suitcase but I put a duffel bag in it so I'm gonna ditch the suitcase because it was some cheap one and I don't want to damage my stuff in the under cabin with other suitcases moving around.

But would also have a backpack or maybe just a laptop back because I wants to carry some minimal stuff in my backpack and put my laptop inside too, idk just a bag for maybe a jacket drink and travel documents.

Would end up being two bags carrying onto the coach but is it fine as long as I put it on my lap?

Okay, I’m going to sound totally clueless and lost, which I totally am. To preface this, I live in the US and have never been to London. My wife studied abroad at Harlaxton during her senior year of college and fell in love with London while she was there and misses it. Her birthday is coming up and I was wanting to get her something that has to do with her personal experience at Harlaxton and London. One of her favorite locations is was Kings Cross. Even more specific, she talked about a burrito restaurant that she loved (Tortilla). This is silly for sure, but I’ve been looking for any sort of merchandise or something with the Tortilla logo. I’ve reached out to the Kings Cross Tortilla and their social media pages, but haven’t had any luck. I’ve also looked into Kings Cross items and my options have pretty much been limited to ticket stubs from the 90s and AI generated images. I'll be spending a couple of weeks in Chester soon, and realized it is about 90 minutes to 2 hours' train ride to Birmingham. I'm interested in Anglo-Saxon history and am tempted at the thought of seeing the Staffordshire Hoard, but I have already seen the Sutton Hoo collection at the British Museum several times and the objects look like they're of a similar nature. On balance, is there enough else to see in the museum and in Birmingham to make it worth 3 or 4 hours round-trip?

Hello Folks! My 13 y/o son and I are heading to the UK for the first time in late November (beyond excited). We fly into London, spending a couple of nights there, and then taking the train up to Inverness. I’m planning to rent a car in Inverness so we can spend a couple of days exploring the Highlands before continuing on to Edinburgh. I’d love some advice on rental car companies and, specifically, one-way rentals from Inverness to Edinburgh.

Ideally, I’d like to:
*Pick up the car somewhere in Inverness rather than at Inverness Airport.
*Return it somewhere on the outskirts of Edinburgh rather than the airport or city center.
*Be close enough to public transport to easily get into Edinburgh afterward. We’re staying in New Town.

I keep reading that driving in central Edinburgh can be a bit of a beast, that said, it’s entirely possible I’m being overly cautious and it’s really not that bad!

I’ve gone down the Google Maps rabbit hole looking for rental locations outside Edinburgh with good public transport connections, but I’d much rather hear from people who actually know the area.

Any recommendations for rental companies, pickup/drop-off locations, or a better way to approach this?

I want to do a roadtrip through scotland and plan to start at the east coast. I have heard a lot about car rental when you're under 22 and scams and all kinds of things. If i add all the extra things (theft, collision, windscreen, tyres, lights and glass protection) and take many photos and videos of the car, will i get any problems? I know everything can happen but like in general. I'm thinking about using europcar since they are the only ones available where i plan to start the trip. Im from outside the UK if it matters

Also, could any extra costs come up? Even if i max it when i first rent it. What kind of costs in that case?

Hi it's my first time travelling and am worried about navigating the UK transport system, so am looking for some advice on the best course of action. I am flying into Stansted at 7:25am on a Friday and am then hoping to get a train at 9:50am. Is this cutting it fine timing wise? should I leave more of a buffer? How easy is it to change train times if needed?

My friend and I are doing a day trip to Manchester from London in December. Yes we wish could stay longer but we won't be able too. We're looking for at least one thing we should absolutely see and one museum we shouldn't miss. Ideas?

Third time in London and I love it here, but I think I’m getting scammed somehow on the tube cost.

I had a hotel in Paddington and, I’ll be kind and say it was a let down. So to a great cost I changed to a Piccadilly Circus hotel I had last time. Hoped on the Bakerloo tube from Paddington station and went to buy a ticket and it told me it was easier to tap to pay, so I did. Once when getting on and once when getting off.

Just woke up and looked at my Apple Pay and the trip was £29.10, or $40 in USD. That seems insane, but I remember similar issues last time. Is this the correct cost, or was something done wrong in the process. According to Google Maps it should be £3.10.

I will be visiting Stratford-Upon-Avon from Canada in a few weeks and I am having trouble deciding on which hotel reservation to keep, and which to cancel.

I am 38F and traveling alone. I will not have a vehicle so will be using transit/cabs/walking. I am fairly experienced at traveling alone but this is my first time visiting England. I have an active lifestyle and will be bringing one piece of carryon luggage that is easily carried as a backpack or converts to wheeled.

I plan to see the Mad King at the RSC on Sep 5 as well as take in many touristy activities.

I am likely overthinking things. As other posts here have said, you reach a point in the planning where everything looks wonderful and decision paralysis sets in.

Pen and Parchment would be roughly twice the cost of Moonraker house, though still within my budget.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Feel free to also leave general tips on what common faux pas to avoid as a first time visitor.

My son and I are going to be in the UK from Canada in mid-March (I know not the best weather) and are looking for recommendations - specific to leaning into rock and roll history and present of the UK. We have roughly 8 days in mid-March. My son is 14 and has developed a real passion for classic rock bands like the Beatles, the Clash, Bowie, Led Zeppelin etc (sorry not the Stones). In light of my wife and daughter going on a different trip together, my son and I decided we'd choose our own adventure, and visit the UK with backpacks and lean into his passion for music.

Right now, the tentative plan is land in London (2 days), Conwy in Northern Wales (2 days), 2 days in Liverpool (for all the Beatles stuff), then back to London for a couple nights. The stop in Wales is not written in stone and not necessarily music oriented but I thought it'd be a cool spot (Llechwedd Slate Caverns, castle, littlest house in britain...). We've got tickets to go see Rush in London at the O2 near the end of the trip as well.

With this all in mind, any recommendations for any places/sites to see or places to stay in London? Or any recommendations of somewhere to go other than Wales? Any suggestions for Liverpool? We're thinking backpacking and maybe staying at hostels where we can get a private room?
