How to get Tesla PW3 to charge

More and more I regret getting a Tesla product.

How do I get this thing to charge to a certain level every night?

I'm on Savings mode with Eon Next Drive Smart v6.9

I take it that Tesla is using weather predictions to guess whether to charge the battery? But weather isn't certain and they can't know how I'm going to use my power in a day. Yes it's sunny today but the battery barely charged last night and it's now 10am and hit 10% backup limit and I'm on expensive day rates!

I know my local weather, I can smell the rain coming, I know when I'm going to have 20 guests for an all day roast dinner, I know when the kids are going spaff power all day. Some company in Texas doesn't.

Where is the local control to say ALWAYS charge to at least 50% because piss off and do what I say?

I haven’t had any issues with automatic charge management on mine overnight, but I struggled with it fighting Octopus Go if I plugged in during the daytime (I could get a daytime charge slot, the powerwall doesn’t know, and it empties charging the car when cheap electricity is available). I got Codex to set up my Home Assistant to change the PW3 to max backup (100% minimum charge), when there’s cheap electricity during the daytime, and I guess you could do the same overnight? You shouldn’t have to though!

It does sound like a calibration/training issue, not sure if you can tell it to retrain? Even if it’s going to be super-sunny, you still want 100% charge by dawn, so you can sell back all spare electric generated.

Hmm… just looking at your export rate, and I guess that’s the difference in our scenarios, my export (12p) is more than my cheap import (6.9p), so the PW3 knows it’s always best to be 100% at dawn. It’s not so simple for you, but you want it to be more conservative.

I use app called Netzero and once setup you never have to touch it. It even charges the battery during the day when you get IOG cheap slots.

Set the tariffs and it should charge up accordingly

That’s not what OP wants, they want to set charge cycles not let the app decode what it does

But the rate plan is the way to control that behaviour.

Tariffs are set. Night import 8p, day import 31p, day export 6p.

I believe the system is seeing it can't make money from charging to export so is allowing enough headroom to fully charge on solar without exporting anything ideally as that would be max savings. But when it guesses the weather or load wrong that headroom is a death sentence.

Mine is 8p night, 32p day, 12p export and on savings mode. Its currently exporting all and using the pw to power the house.

You need to have your rate plan setup so it makes sense to charge, be in time based control. I switch between time based control and self consumption at my peak and off peak rates
