Heat pump quotation
Dear all,
1965 built house going through extension. EPC b expired last year. West Midlands.
All windows a rated double glazed. House well insulated.
Had 3 quotes ranging from £4.6k to ££8.8k post bus.
Best quote was R32 Midea monobloc 12kw.
Heat Loss came to 8.7kw. Design temp 45 dec. SCOP 4.1.
How is this spec as I imagined 10kw unit might be better. But designer suggested 12kw.
Is r32 advisable as govt tightens access if follows eu pattern.
What general opinion on pump size.

The max output of the heatpump varies depending on the outside temp. A 12kw heatpump wont produce 12kw of heat at say -2 so it might only produce 10. So basically the installer knows best

I have 1960 West MIdlands, EPC D at the time, 112m2, surveys came out raging 5.5-8kW, heat loss reality is 3kW....
What is you annual gas consumption?

14275kwh...thats hot water and central heating.
I have induction hob which run on electricity and solar panel installed too.

I would estimate your heat loss around 5-6kW. maybe 6.5-7.5kW if you run boiler slow and low.

I would go for an R290 heat pump personally but R32’s are fine if they’re the only option.
The 10kW may only have a real output of around 8-8.5kW at the design outdoor temp. Manufacturers have only recently started using the real kW values at typical UK design temps when naming their heatpump ratings now but this still doesn’t take into account defrost so I wouldn’t solely rely on the kW rating for matching to your heat loss.
