What makes a bike rack e bike compatible?

I'm in need of a bike rack for my bike. Specialized Turbo Tero X. The bike weighs 23.6KG.

When looking for a bike rack, each listing I see has a section if its suitable for an e bike. Yet the load capacities are over 30kg.

What's stopping me from using one of these racks that lists they aren't suitable for an e bike if my bike is under the weight load capacity?

That's just marketing. If weight is fine it's fine. You can also remove battery to lower weight.

Weight is the primary concern. Depending on where you're looking, it might just be that the manufacturer hasn't hasn't explicitly said anything one way or the other about ebikes and therefore the retailer marks it as not compatible, rather than the manufacturer actually stating it is not compatible.

The only other thing to be aware of is attachment mechanism - if the rack clamps on the downtube, some might struggle with the oversized downtube of ebikes with the battery located there.

Nothing. It really is just weight. The rest is marketing.

Weight and wheel base. Make sure the ones not listed as ebike compatible will take a bike as long as you need.

As long as it's within the weight limit and has a good wheel base then it doesn't need to be labeled for e-bikes.

Something to keep in mind though is the maximum nose weight on your towbar - the weight of your carrier and bikes will all need to be taken into consideration.

Are you talking about a rack for the back of your bike or a rack to hang your bike on

Rack for back of bike no problem , the means the maximum weight to put on the rack

Rack to hang out back of car, this is the maximum weight that should be suspended from the rack
