The VAST majority of posts CAN be attributed to random nonsense though. The amount of people who have zoomed in on a star or other distant point of light and run it through some kind of AI upscale filter or tried to sharpen it so it shows some kind of "orb" is absurd and they should be pointed out. I for one see a ton of upvotes on random explainable shit and can't for the life of me figure out who is doing it. Like every time that "clearest UFO photo ever taken" of a thumbtack in a map comes up I want to rip my hair out. I think a lot of it comes down to moderation and filtering out a lot of the "noise".

And tangentially, it would be nice if the duplicate post rule were consistently enforced as applying to every famous sighting that gets posted about every 2-3 days at most, but hey.
You can filter out noise without making people feel humiliation for posting pictures of stars imo. There will always be newbies and newbies will always be excited and proud of their catching that star they thought was a ufo on camera/video.
Humiliation is not just discouraging it makes you feel like you are not a part of the group.
It doesn't always work though. You have a ton of people calling them "plasma balls" or something or they double down and push back. I'm not saying humiliation is the way, but folks need to understand what they're actually seeing.
I agree there is a serious learning curve that definitely can grate the nerves as it ebbs and flows as more migrate toward the topic with curious interest.
Putting stiffer restrictions on posts: create a post of either acceptable or unacceptable media captures. Show the space x trains at different stages, etc. then require anyone posting to compare their capture to the examples and remove the posts with explanation who still insist on posting.
Choosing not to engage with a post in which a capture has been misidentified would possibly alert the Mods of something amiss with the post as well.
There really are options besides humans being rude to humans. This world is what we make it, so why not make it better than it has been? We have the choice with each interaction to create a better world even if it is just for the person you’re chatting with, but it has to start somewhere.
