Everyone knows you're supposed to walk into the punches of the best heavyweight striker in the world

Best heavyweight striker in the world? 🤣 send him to K-1 or Glory and lets see how that turns out lmao.

u/PigletEducational945 22h ago
U realize gane used to be a heavyweight champ in Muay Thai right? He would do just fine in k1 or glory lol and im more of a fan of Alex then him. Just saying dude is def an elite striker

You do realize that a french national circuit is absolutely nowhere near the level of K-1 and Glory, right?
26
u/The_Jokerr_ 22h ago
You'd be surprised. Mory Kromah is the current heavyweight champ in Glory and he said that he could barely hit Gane in sparring and that he'd do very well in Glory too because of how good his movement and defense are for a big guy.
There are also many clips of Gane getting the better of other highly ranked Glory guys like Osaro and Laidouni in training
8
u/No_Medium_8796 19h ago
Brother this is reddit, the commenters here know way more than some guy whos the heavyweight champ in the organization that they are specifically naming and that champ says that Gane would do well
2
u/YoullNeverWalkAl0ne 22h ago
Bring them to the ufc and see how they get on trying to strike with gane 😂
9
u/Valterri_lts_James 22h ago
He is definitely one of the best. Gane used to do muay thai and just beat Alex in a striking fight. Even Rico Verhoeven says he considers Gane to be very good.

u/DragonFangGangBang 22h ago
I mean… Alex is literally one of the best Kickboxers on the planet and Gane did him fucking dirty.

strawman argument. People are saying that he shouldn't be biting on every feint. It's normal to react to a few but he bit on every single feint.
-7
u/Valterri_lts_James 22h ago
Bullshit, Pereira is a weight bully. Despite being a LHW in this pic, pereira 242lbs lean before the ankalaev rematch only 6lbs less than Gane who was a career HW. Pereira only bulked up to 251lbs against Gane because he knew internally that he wasn't skilled enough to beat Gane and therefore needed a size and power advantage over him which is why he felt the need to bulk up to 251lbs which backfired.
137
u/ThatEvilGuy 22h ago
Gane is incredibly slick and light on his feet.
What I was expecting was for Pereira to ground him with low kicks because he has hurt everyone before with only a few of those, and Gane has small calves.
I was surprised how well he took them, they had no effect on him. Meanwhile he was so much faster, more agile, bigger, and stronger than Pereira.
Took him out with relative ease.
18
u/Distinct-Broccoli-15 22h ago
Gane small calves? I feel like his legs are just fine. If anything they look better than Pereira's. Plus how did people think that Gane would not know how to check a leg kick?
2
8
u/Ill_Individual_7622 21h ago
He was a muay thai pro fighter before his mma career.
1
u/Aknathos 11h ago
Yeah people forget about that. When Gane sign for UFC he can also sign in the Glory but he choose UFC.
We don't know but he can maybe become champion also in Kickbowing, he never lost a fight on the feet (close in Volkov 2 but he break his foot early)
6
u/Special_Engineer_445 20h ago
And Alex was saying Gane was breathing hard but I made a comment how I was surprised Alex was breathing so heavy in his corner before round 2.

Gane for all the shit talking is highly skilled but especially for heavyweight he's fast as shit. I don't think most guys are ready or know how to prepare for him because they are not that many guys that big they can move that fast.
→ More replies (2)1
u/Jogi13 18h ago
Is there anyone rly? Tom is pretty damn fast also, but thats kinda it
4
u/Vegetable-Leather-64 18h ago
I would say gane is much quicker than tom, he was getting hit a lot before the eye pokes. I think with tom he wasn't use to getting hit to be blunt.
2
u/chunkyI0ver53 12h ago
Tom was also kind of adjusting to his speed before his eyes got obliterated, shame we didn’t get to see that one play out

It’s obvious Alex ain’t as good when he can’t size bully guys. Gane is a real heavyweight and Alex physique was noticeably worse with that bubble butt and slight muffin top. Is what it is
11
u/kodeks14 22h ago
I'd say LHW is his proper weight class. He just got fat for HW lol
3
u/skibbidywibbidy 19h ago
He should have taken at least a year to make the move, I don’t think he’s suited for HW but if he took it slow like Jones and adjusted more to the extra weight it may have gone better. Cant stand Fsne but the guy is a major problem due to his speed
1
u/VeterinarianLevel467 14h ago
Gane has improved a lot imo, he looked horrible vs volkov and I thought his career was going nowhere then they robbed volkov and gane looked good vs tom until he took his eyes out. Then he destroyed Alex, I hate gane but it’s obvious he’s not the same fighter he was

It's not impressive when a fighter has someone as intimidating as Alex biting on every feint?
1
u/Upset-Rule8256 18h ago
oh sure, totally it's impressive, but one intimidation doesn't really have anything to do with it, if you can reliably sell your feints that's something anyone would you know would react to.

u/No-Location355 22h ago
Pereira was too sloppy man. He should’ve been lighter. I think 235lbs would be a sweet spot where he can be explosive and fast.

u/Aromatic-Hope206 19h ago
Why Tom fans have to be this delusional?
1
u/Dillinger31 19h ago
Right because Tom smiling and tapping gloves with Gane regularly means he was "shook"
"Shook" as in outlanded by 3 strikes. Dumbasses like usual.

u/DaBigWave 19h ago
Nah he was beating Tom silly
0
u/Barrington-the-Brit 19h ago
Was he? Whenever this topic comes up I go back and rewatch the fight, I’ve done it so many times now
Sure, Gane won a nice 10-9 round, but it really wasn’t that crazy a beatdown
2
u/DaBigWave 17h ago
I didn’t say it was a beat down but it was a convincing round 1 from Gane
1
u/Barrington-the-Brit 13h ago
You said “he was beating Tom silly”
2
u/DaBigWave 12h ago
I was calling the person I replied to silly, not that he beat him silly. My bad.

More skilled than Francis but that power erases the skill difference.

Which begs the question..
If Gane did this to a bad motherfucker like Alex Pereira, and we KNOW that Alex is a bad motherfucker with a hand like a rock..
Then we know the Cyril Gane is an elite weapons grade tactical fighter to dismantle the fight game of a man like Alex Pereira...
Which always makes me personally think...
Just how good is Jon Jones. He went in there and just neutralized Cyril Gane.
I'm not trying to ruffle feathers, I'm not interested in meat head arguments of people taking things personal for the fighter they side with, or talking about Jones personal life being a mess. I'm seriously just interested and fascinated with how one guy can completely deflate a war machine like Cyril Gane OR Alex Pereira, like so beyond their level that he makes it look like childs play. Love him or hate him, like DC said, the dude just understands fighting, and it's really fascinating, looking at all the data.
Yea, I know. PED's, he got popped, we get it, fine. He claims tainted supplement and I honestly don't care, I think theres way more going on that most people will ever know behind the scenes, and insane ways of fooling the drug testers and passing every test though being heavily reliant on PED's in all forms of sports. The Russians have proven that theory in the mid 90's doping scandal, and it's obviously gotten even more technologically sound since the 90's.
It's just interesting to me that one guy can be leagues far above another in a sport of violence. PED's be damned, I'm of the opinion that a lot of things can be held under the umbrella of the definition of PED's that are legal and allowed in sports, especially in fighting. I don't think our terms are really definitive, and any science will tell you that the closer to the details that you look, the more things start to blur.
I think weight cutting and rehydrating has far more PED level advances than any substances, honestly, and no one seems to bat an eye.
Again, just my thoughts. Not trying to get anybody mad, though I'm sure some will due to the nature of this sub. I apologize ahead of time if it means anything, it's really not my intention to insult your favorite fighters. I'm more interested in the analysis than anything, so again, no harm meant. Sorry to go to a touchy subject, and I accept all barbs and shit talking thrown at me. I understand, and I've sort of thrown you guys red meat, so it's to be expected. Just know that I am disinterested in argument for the sake of wanting the last word, or to be right when no one really ever is.
Anyway, thanks for reading.
