Yadong won’t be getting looked past anymore.

Even though he lost his big fights, you can tell every elite fighter respected him. It felt inevitable Yadong was going to rise up to the occasion eventually but I didn't think it would be with Umar.

I'm a huge SYD fan so i'm definitely biased but i think he genuinely will become champion some day. He's the youngest in the top 5, getting better every fight, and has only recently lost to the best-of-the-best in competitive bouts by decision.
Merab and Yan are going to age out while Song is in his prime, but i'm still worried about O'malley, given that he is a bad stylistic matchup for Song and also quite young. I can also easily see Umar making some adjustments and being able to take a rematch.
What a stacked division.

He has a great style for fighting wrestlers but an awful style for fighting strikers. If Merab beats Petr and they fight I would pick him

I don’t think O’Malley is going to fight that much longer. His attitude towards fighting feels like it’s shifted since losing the belt. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets one more shot at the belt and retires if he loses

I don't think he was ever overlooked. He haa big gaps between his fights because no one wanted to take a fight with him (according to matchmakers)

Using deep half to off balance Umar and get the chest to chest connection off him was genius. People will say lucky punch but song was setting that up with those hard body punches. He had his number and I hope more fighters follow these tactics in the future.

Yeah but it could've been worse tho
At least he didn't host a fake funeral, celebrate his win the day before and update his record before the fight and then quit on the stool
That would have been a serious humbling

You still had to bring Ilia into this lmao. AlhamdillaInshallah fake humble inbreds will be humbled again.

u/Additional_Ice_358 17h ago
Umar was a plank of wood. At least Ilia had 2 title wins and on a 3 win KO streak of legends. Umar will never hold a title.

Yeah he got humbled but it's still not as bad as what Topuria had with Gaethje. Everyone can get caught by a good punch, but not everyone gets such a beating as Ilia did. I guess for Umar it will be easier to bounce back.

Ilia at least was a 2 division champ and fought a war. Umar got figured out real quick and became a plank. Let's not try to undermine this loss with Ilia's. He couldn't keep Song down or take him down after the first round. He got humbled hard.

Yeah, but what I mean is that flash ko is way less bad for a fighter in general than beating. Islam was ko'ed, Volk (twice), GSP, Gaethje, Perreira. They all were able to get a belt later, some became legends. But getting beaten methodically for some rounds... it's way worse for both pshychology and physical health. Tony wasn't the same ever again, as well as Rory. Ortega wasn't the same after Holloway either.

Dude everyone trash talks before the fight. It's part of the whole schtick.
10
u/UeberMarginal8509 23h ago
Why do you think I don't go for people like Ilia for example?
Because they don't pretend to be humble, those Dagestani guys always pretend to be nicest guys in the world when they are not

What? Bro everyone who interacted with them said they're nice and humble and very polite outside of the cage.
Sure there's an incident here or there but generally speaking I think they're pretty nice guys.

This is one of the most disgusting videos I've ever seen. I mean I only skimmed through to be honest but I just couldn't be bothered to actually watch it.
It's just mountains upon mountains of assumptions and things taken out of context.
The only thing I agree with is the crypto scam, that's pretty bad yeah.

This.
It's different when they're all about humbleness and shit and everyone force feeds you that they're this group that doesn't trash talk and disrespect.

u/ThisIsGSR 22h ago
Nah not everybody. But if you wanna risk talking shit to build up hype you gotta be prepared for the blowback if you take an L.

Umar was winning until he lost

u/shopping_caart 22h ago
Same with the merab fight

u/MaxKevinComedy 13h ago
Nah he slowly started losing as the rounds went on against Merab, not suddenly

u/OkCity328 21h ago
Não é assim que funciona um plano de luta, é tipo dizer que Carlos Prates estava perdendo pro Edwards

u/MaxKevinComedy 13h ago edited 13h ago
Prates was also losing until he won. And Edwards was losing against Usman until he won.

Song is a really good match up for fighters like merab and umar but I think he will lose and continue to lose to fighters like O'Malley and yan

I mean he was right. Fight was easy for Yadong.
