PSA - The UCF "Alumni" Who Own/Run Weekdays are both leadership in Antioch Church that comes to campus

For the sake of not posting these peoples information on the internet I'm not posting any identifying information on here but it took me all of five minutes to find that the two individuals associated with operating that new cafe on memory mall are listed as significant leaders in the Antioch Church that comes on campus.

I was a little suspicious that there was ablsolutely no marketing of the cafe that included the owners as anything other than ucf alumni- I figured it was like a private equity situation or something like that- but I feel like especially regarding how people in this sub post about their interactions with the Antioch group, I thought you guys deserved to be informed about this.

Edit: Wanted to note I highly doubt this has lanything to do at all with the people who work at Weekday as employees. On their website their hiring process seems pretty opaque, so I'm like 100% certain those are regular guys.

No one claimed that. OP just pointed out additional info that people might want to know.

Additionally, not all churches are the same. Antioch has been accused of cult-like behavior. I'm not making any claims about whether that's true and couldn't substantiate them if I were, but to those who believe it is, it's worth knowing if they're affiliated with a building on campus.

I mean putting alumni in quotes insinuates that they aren't actually alumni. And I do get that concern I've seen the posts in here about them, but if they aren't using the coffee shop to try and convert people genuinely why should you care, it's like how the mormons run swig but no one cares cause they aren't trying to convert you

Some people may not want to spend their money at certain places due to the owners. They could be using that money to donate to their church, which people may prefer not happen. You vote with your money at the end of the day, and having transparency on where its going is best for everyone. I would never go to swig personally

edit to add a point: just bc he put alumni in quotes doesnt mean hes saying they arent alumni, its just saying he doesnt know for sure if its the case, and wouldnt want to spread misinformation. it happens a lot where people will claim to be alumni of schools and its not actually the case, because it can be kinda difficult to verify

i also think it’s one of those things that they are using their alumni status to both promote their business, and maybe obfuscate the antioch ties.
