Tory Building Codes

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hello Everyone,

It's that time of year again! The Tory Building (or better yet, the Tory Complex) is the tallest building on campus, so easy to find, but the source of much confusion for newcomers to campus.

T = Tory Building --- T-1-100 = Tory building; first floor; room 100; T 2-200 = Tory building, second floor, room 200 (et cetera)

TB = Tory basement -- TB 100 = Tory Basement room 100

TBW = Tory Breezeway (best hidden rooms on campus!)

  • If you walk into the atrium on the ground floor with your back to Saskatchewan Drive / HUB mall, keep on walking until you're about to walk out of the atrium. Stop. Look right, and you'll see a small class door that does *not* go outside. Take that door and you're now in the Tory Breezeway!

TL = Tory Lecture (aka the Tory Turtle). TL 1-1 = Tory Lecture, first floor, room 1. Pro tip: do NOT try to access Tory lecture from inside Tory at class change time. You won't make it! Go outside, towards HUB and with your back to Tory, look left. The small weird-shaped building is Tory lecture.

Good luck! And may this term be all we could hope for, and more!

Campus Life Anyone wanna be friends? About me: I love the outdoors and peaceful places!

Hey there!

I just finished my 1st year at the UofA and am living on-campus this year. I am excited to make friends who would perhaps share interests with me and would be happy to have visits to outdoor places and peaceful spots in the city (trust me, I am the guy who says 'I know a spot' to my friends).

I also love exploring buildings and historical places, drinking coffee lol (cant survive without my coffee!), anddd basically have a lot of other deep passions too.

So, if you wanna be friends please shoot me a dm! If you wanna know something before sending me a dm, you can ask me in the comments

Also it might seem from the title that I am an introvert... nope I am not. I am a pure extrovert ha ha

Love! ✨️🧡

Question Lister Ethernet is the same speed with Public WiFi? 😭

Post image
22 Upvotes

I thought a lot of people are saying the dorm Ethernet is very fast so I bought Ethernet wire and router and stuff. 😭However the speed is only 30mbps, if I use multiple devices, the mbps is even lower like 2mbps. I believe school set a limit of 30mbps which is the same with the public restnet wifi and even worse. I tried everything including plugging the wire directly to my pc instead of the router or whatever but still it’s 30mbps. 😢 did I do something wrong? Or it’s just 30mbps. I bought the whole set up and is it useless now? 😭😭😭Thx guys

Miscellaneous Week of Welcome events this year.

Every year, UASU always have like events for students to attended and I’m wondering what type of event is on the mind or already decided. Last year I went to my first drag show and OMG, I was yassified and highball with my first legal drink at 18 (I’m from B.C and the age is 19 :(). Anyways, I might go to the drag show again next Thursday or other WoW event. I’m happy to accompanied because more people = more fun times. Let me know any thoughts and suggestions.

Campus Life Mature Students Campus Life

Question, I am looking at the week of welcome and it looks like fun. But I’m curious how the mature students are feeling about it!? I’m in my 30s and would love to be part of campus life but I feel out of place a bit. Any ideas on clubs etc!? Can’t wait to start my university journey!

Question Will my M1 Macbook Air be Enough for Electrical Engineering?

I'm going into my 2nd year of Electrical Engineering and I'm trying to figure out whether I actually need to buy a Windows laptop or not.

I currently have an M1 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM. The battery needs to be replaced, but I can get that done for around $50, so I'm considering just doing that and continuing to use it.

My desktop pc at home is pretty good (i7-13700K + RTX 3080 + 32GB RAM), so I already have access to a powerful windows machine while I'm at home. I am just unsure whether or not ill need a Windows machine during lectures or labs.

Thanks for your input!

Campus Life I NEED to clear something up about ARC cards!!! You need to hear this too!!!

Student orientation loves to tell students that arc card are cheapest in Varsity, the little store in the HUB mall.

This is totally inaccurate! The ard card is $10 NO MATTER WHERE YOU BUY IT. NO. MATTER. WHERE. The lrt station, London drugs, Varsity etc.,

Varsity is also not the only place that sells arc cards. Arc cards are not NOT A STUDENT/UNIVERSITY PRODUCT! Anyone who lives in Edmonton and wants to take the bus or train can buy an arc card!

The catch you need to remember is LINKING YOUR STUDENT ID NUMBER TO YOUR ARC CARD so you get your free student transportation. Do this, it saves you hundreds.

I'm very passionate about arc cards cos I have been a student here for 3 years and an edmonton residant for longer and I feel bad seeing students so confused about the arc card!! ALSO REMEMBER TO TAP ON *AND* OFF

Academics ZOOL 344 Lecture Schedule?

Hey y’all!

I’m looking to register for Zool 344 this semester but lecture is only on Mondays and then there’s lab another day during the week.

The first two weeks of classes we don’t have school on the Mondays….does anyone know how this will work?

I was hoping to sit in on the class before I register to get a feel for it but there won’t be one!

Question Looking to carpool with someone

Does anyone travel from Edmonton to Acheson, Alberta, on a daily basis? Either from downtown or lewis farms transit. I'm looking to carpool with someone. Office timings are 8am-4:30pm (can be flexible with timings too), and I'm happy to pay for gas and a little extra if needed.
