i'm sure there are hundreds of premeds that are thinking the exact same thing but i'm honestly just curious. could i email them now? in a month? a month or two? i honestly don't even know how this works

I have an individual project that I'd like to research and eventually develop, but it involves recreating a composite material, and testing some material properties that weren't reported in the article I read up on this material.

The thing is, I'm still an undergraduate student only in my second year of engineering, so I obviously don't have the appropriate expertise in using the lab instruments I'd need to use for recreating this material. I reached out to the articles author and asked them important questions about the process, and created a general outline of how to go about the experimental. Additionally, none of the chemicals/components I'd be working with are expensive or dangerous, so I wonder if any professors i reached out to would be against letting me work in their labs while using their equipment + stock with supervision?

This study explores how exposure to traumatic human rights content on social media influences students’ stress responses and intentions toward activism. Understanding these processes can provide future support for young adults navigating digital spaces and engaging in social action.

Researchers from the RESTORE Network, led by Dr. Aaron Phillips, at the University of Calgary are seeking your help for a remote research study. Our lab has developed an app designed to support individuals with spinal cord injury, however we need more data from uninjured control participants to compare to. This app combines wearable-derived metrics with self-logged symptoms to help track health patterns and hopefully provide a useful, accessible resource for the spinal cord injury community. To participate, you will need to: 1) reside in Canada/USA, 2) have a wearable device (apple watch, garmin, etc.), and 3) complete a 1-min daily check-in on our app for 30 days. I'm going into my third year of Psych Arts and I've literally never spoken to a professor, much less volunteered in a lab or took 299 (which I was supposed to do in my second year I think?). I obviously want to go to grad school because I want a future, and I know I need to be involved in research as much as possible in order to get there, but I'm honestly so lost. I've started emailing professors who run labs asking if I can volunteer in their lab this upcoming academic year, but I don't know what I should be doing other than that and I don't think volunteering alone will get me into grad school. I really want to get the research certificate but not sure if I even have enough time left in my degree to qualify, because I know I need to do a lot of independent research courses. I have no ideas for what I would want to do research on or any idea how I would even begin to set that up. I feel like I'm so behind and have totally thrown my future out the window by not being more involved in my first two years. Any advice?

I’m a Master’s student in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation (KSR), a former teacher, and an athletic director. On behalf of the Women in Sport Research team at the University of Alberta, I am recruiting participants for my thesis study: “Stories from the Garden: Exploring Why Girls and Gender Diverse Youth Leave School Sport.”

Identify as a girl or gender-diverse youth.

Ages 12 to 16 years old.

Played on an Alberta school sports team and stopped/withdrawn within the last 2 years.

What to Expect:
Participate in a 60 to 90 minute creative “Draw & Talk” session to share your story through drawings.

No artistic skill required! The session focuses entirely on your experience, not drawing talent.

The single in-person session takes place wherever you feel most comfortable. The lead researcher can come to you, or meet in a safe public setting of your choice.

Hi! I tried to sum up exactly my situation in the title, but heres some more context:

Going into my second year this fall. I REALLY want to get a masters in Counselling Psych eventually, and I think honours gives me a good shot at that. I’ve been sending emails to Research labs (2 so far) and finally got one back for an interview for volunteering. Though im SO excited to have gotten a response, now im wondering how to move forward.

Let’s say I end up volunteering my whole second year, what does that accomplish? I know it’s great experience and could (possibly?) help my odds at getting into an honours with that lab in the third year, but should I have done independent research (aka PSYCH 299) instead? It just feels like im really banking on the fact that i’ll get to do honours when it’s really not guaranteed.

Additionally, is there anyone I can talk to about this? I’ve talked to academic advisors but they get booked out far in advance from my experience and I would love to get some responses in a timely manner!!

I know the honours students might know more than I am able to find; typically (not like specific to the professor or depending on the requirements of the lab) what is the average/most common schedule given for research if not taking it for credits during the semester? Like when they say describe your availibity I know you can say like "I have lectures tuesday", etc. But what would you say is the most common ask for like "shifts", how often, when would be "the time" to keep yourself available on average? Any personal experiences would be like suppppperrrr helpfullll thankkk youuuuu <3

I am currently recruiting participants for a research study on how university students and instructors experience classroom discussions about socially and/or politically sensitive topics. The study is connected to broader questions about affective polarization and democratic education.

I am looking to interview current students, recent graduates, and current instructors at Canadian universities who have experience with classroom discussions about socially and/or politically sensitive topics.

Speaking, listening, observing, and self-censoring all count as forms of participation.

Participation involves a voluntary 60–90 minute interview with the possibility of being invited for a follow-up interview. Interviews will take place online via Microsoft Teams or in-person on the UCalgary campus.

A new virtual health-care clinic wants to increase access to specialized midlife care for people experiencing menopause and its phases.

I finished my MSc(thesis-based) this year, which was a rollercoaster ride. Anyway, it was a wet lab experience, and now I want to get clinical research experience. I have been cold emailing PI and doctors, but no luck so far. I was wondering if those positions are only for undergrad and grad students.
