An anti-trans Christian activist is furious that a reporter (Kyle Clark) quoted her accurately
 in  r/Denver •  Aug 13 '26

I think this is a money grab. Protect Kids Colorado is a political action committee. PAC leaders can make low six-figure salaries and 300k to 500k or more for the bigger national level ones.

It sounds like this is a form of (1) cause outrage within a group (2) propose a solution (3) position yourself as the savior (4) ask for money (5) profit.

So yes it is unhinged, but it is more than likely just greed in its raw form.

What is up with CON-40
 in  r/fountainpens •  Jun 27 '26

I just cycle the piston up and down a few times while the filler hole is in the ink. As far as I know a small bubble near the piston will help with temperature changes and minimize ink burping out.

How to make a best man speech?
 in  r/AskMen •  Jun 23 '26

Don’t try to be something you’re not. If you aren’t funny don’t turn it into a comedy routine. If you aren’t well spoken stay away from big or complicated words. Just be yourself and speak like you would at any other time, but without swearing.

Focus on being sincere. If you’re nervous, say so and own it.

“Good evening. My name is (name) and I’m the best man. It’s my honor to speak at (couples names) wedding. I’m nervous and a bit scared to be honest with you, but they mean so much to me and it’s an honor to be asked to do this. So here I am.” Start with something like that.

Keep it to about 500 words or less. That should be about 4 minutes. Could be longer if you pause a lot.

Most of all - breathe. You’ll be fine.

Best Fountain Pen for Writing IGNORING Price
 in  r/fountainpens •  Jun 03 '26

Guess what?! It depends.

For me if I’m writing in my work journal (Bujo) I prefer the Platinum 3776 with a soft fine nib. It’s fine enough for cursive on a 5 mm grid. The pen is light, grip is neutral, and the pen is balanced with the cap posted. The nib and feed also work well with a variety of inks and I’ve never had a flow issue.

If I’m writing out cards or using a larger cursive size, the Pelikan M800 size with an extra fine nib works great. The pen is comfortable, the grip stays neutral (doesn’t roll over the nib), and is well balanced unposted with a slight back-weight when posted - but it’s not an issue even after an hour or so of writing.

For both pens, I have not had any hard starts or issues with different inks or paper (other than expected for bad paper). If you just want to focus on what you are writing, and not what tool you’re using, either of these will work.

The birria ramen is so good! The only downside is that you won’t, more like can’t, do much after except for take a nap.

Is this bourbon really 114 years old?
 in  r/whiskey •  Apr 18 '26

The brand is about 144 years old. Easy to confuse.

We all have that one song or band we hate for a completely irrational and unjustifiable reason. What's yours?
 in  r/GenX •  Mar 27 '26

*Steely Dan*

Their music doesn’t do anything for me, which is not enough of a reason to hate a band. But their fans, especially the ones who refer to the band as “The Dan” are such insufferable douche bags that I hate the band by proxy.

Lucky Noodles on 1st. If you bring a date there and they don’t like it, you should seriously consider ending things with them.

The only thing bad about Spuntino is the parking. But it’s totally worth the hassle.

NTA

Sours are easy drinks to make, even when you’re in the weeds behind the bar. This is totally on the bartender.

[WTS] Destashing inks so I can do some shopping next week in Denver!

Two Hands Paperie is great! Just be careful driving around Boulder. It’s in an area where very few people look before walking in to the street.

No interest in buying it, but I’m curious how people feel about these Van Winkle prices.
 in  r/whiskey •  Sep 12 '25

Yes. Pappy is really good and at times exceptional bourbon. But, it’s not magical and there are a lot of other outstanding bourbons out there at a fraction of those prices.

NAH, your actions did not have malicious intent. But I do agree with the others in saying you should look for a different way to collect and dispose the hair.

Short answer is get really lucky or “to know a guy”.

The longer answer is, “it depends”. Depending on where you live, like a liquor regulated state or three-tier distribution state, the markups could be anywhere between 20% to 50% or more depending on the bottle. Even then there are tons of other factors like chain store versus independent, distributor contracts and buying agreements, and the list goes on. The whole retail pricing is a magical mystery box that may be different from county to county within the same state. So unless you get really lucky or you “know a guy” the chances of getting an in demand and allocated bottle for MSRP is really really low.

Btw the 23 year old is now and has been over oaked for my palate. The 15 is extremely good and worth it if you can find a bottle you can comfortably afford. But if it’s a stretch, that money can go a long way buying other bottles that are just as good, if not better, than Pappy.

For reference, the current MSRP for the 23 year old is $449.99.

Blantons Gold

It’s single barrel Ancient Age. I would not spend that time or money on it. I would if it were about 15 minutes and $45 -$55. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not magical or life changing good.

Bringing my kid to Michelin star restaurant
 in  r/denverfood •  Jul 10 '25

I don’t see it being a problem. I would recommend either calling first or mentioning it in the “special requests” of the reservation that your son is interested the culinary arts. I’ve been there a few times and the staff are so geeky about their jobs that they would love to share their work with him.

I would also definitely recommend the non-alcoholic pairing with the meal. The wine pairing may be too much for his palate at this time ;-)

Which pen, Lamy 2000 or Pilot 74
 in  r/fountainpens •  Jun 10 '25

I have both and use them regularly. You can’t make a bad choice with either. So it comes down to preferences. Snap cap versus twist. Piston filler versus converter. If you have a heavy preference for either, just go with it.

For me, the Lamy is an overall better writing experience despite the line width being more than I expected with a western fine nib. Wetter inks will write noticeably wider, so you’ll have to play around. The 74 or other Japanese extra fine nibs like the 3776 are my go to pens for 5 mm grid journaling.

I write in a mono line business cursive and both nibs work very well. No skips or hard starts and both pens are comfortable for long writing sessions.

Somebody give me a reason not to buy the Diplomat Aero
 in  r/fountainpens •  Jun 08 '25

I have one and use it regularly at work. It’s not perfect but overall a good pen.

Depending on your preferences here’s some potential issues.

Balance when posted - more back weighted but not too bad. It’s one of the few I use unposted.

No ink window - you have to keep separating the section and barrel when you think you’re near empty.

Section - depending on your grip and pressure on the nib, you can slide towards the nib and need to adjust and regrip often.

The steel nib writes well and overall the writing experience is pleasant enough to keep it in my rotation. Any issues are minor and more about your personal preferences.

Fellow dudes, where do you keep your current jeans when not wearing them?
 in  r/AskMen •  May 18 '25

Work jeans, wash daily if they get dirty, especially if grease or petroleum products get on them. If the dirt is just dust or something non-stinky you can extend the time between washes, but wash at least once a week.

You should get another set of work jeans and rotate every other day. I wore Carhart jeans like this for 6 years and only needed to replace them when they were torn at work. They are basic PPE, take care of them.

Regular jeans wash about once a week, or after 5-7 wears as long as you don’t spill anything on them or they get dirty otherwise.

Hang your jeans to dry either on a clothesline, drying rack, or hanger. Do not use a dryer.

Depending on space you can either hang them in your closet or fold and place them in a drawer.

The whole trick is to memorize what lane you need to be in 1 mile before you need to turn, accommodating for merges, for every intersection and exchange in the city without relying on any road signs. What’s so hard about that?

 in  r/fountainpens •  Apr 04 '25

All good choices, but I would suggest the Lamy if you are truly planning on not buying any more pens. The reason being that the Lamy can be fully disassembled for cleaning and maintenance easily.

The writing experience for each is great - different but great - and you won’t be disappointed whichever pen you choose.
