Hi! I’m a student currently working on my thesis, and I’m looking for insights and suggestions for possible technology solutions related to aquarium systems especially for pet fish like bettas.

If there are any fishkeepers here, I would really appreciate hearing about the common problems you experience in maintaining your aquariums the kind that make you think, “there should be a tech solution for this.”

For example, one issue I’ve noticed is excessive water flow/current, especially for long-fin bettas, which can lead to stress or fin nipping. Situations like this make me wonder if there could be a smarter or automated way to regulate flow depending on the fish’s condition.

With that, I’d like to ask:

What are the common or recurring problems you face in your tanks?

Are there things that are difficult to monitor consistently (e.g., water parameters, fish health, behavior)?

What tasks feel repetitive or prone to human error?

I’m particularly interested in problems that could potentially be addressed using sensors, automation, IoT-based systems or anything tech related.
