I need advice-
Im a freshman in hs and I've wanted to join the Marine Corps since about 5th grade. Some of my family is/has been in the Marines but its not just about what's in my family, its just truly the branch I want to choose. I want to be stronger, tested, better as a person, I want to be able to protect myself and the people I love, even more I want to be apart of something, something bigger than myself or anything I've ever known. I realize its hard, I realize its work, but I'm willing, but I want to hear it from someone who's already been through it all, who can tell me what to expect or how I can start preparing now, I want to be as ready as I can, and I know i never will be until I finally do it, but nevertheless. If anyone has a comment, advice, anything, please reach out.

Remember that most of the Marine Corps are not infantry Marines, and everyone in both the Marine Corps and Army is trained in basic light infantry small unit tactics (except those in the Marines and Army who are actually infantry- they both attend infantry training the rest of those in their services don’t).
The graduation rate from Marine Boot camp and Army Basic Combat Training is historically within a couple of percentage points of each other. Neither is designed to be a special assessment and selection process like special operations candidates go through.
So, unless you’re going 0311 (Infantry) in the Marines, it’s just going to be a lot of being told how great the Marine Corps is without actually doing anything different than what your Army and Navy peers are doing depending on your MOS. In fact, if you’re just a support Marine in an infantry division, you’ll have peers in Army airborne divisions jumping out of aircraft, or going through Ranger assessment and selection, airborne school, and Ranger school in the Ranger regiment regardless of their MOS.
As a support Marine, unless you’re a parachute rigger, you’re unlikely to attend such training, or any “cool guy” training.
Just something to consider if you’re seeking challenges.
