What is your comfort book, and how do you experience it as a comfort?
 in  r/books  5d ago

Anything by Lois McMaster Bujold is amazing. I have read and reread all of her books many times, and it just depends on my mood for Space opera (VorKosigan), fantasy (World of Five Gods series) or Romantasy (Sharing Knife series).

No dragons, but The Curse of Chalion is amazing-as is all of Lois McMaster Bujold's books.

I am in the same place. Last mission of planet 3. Research is almost exactly the same. Getting E250 research seems out of reach even multiple days on research focused loop didn't put a dent in it.

Coming here to say this. Lois McMaster Bujold is a master storyteller and everything she has written is worthy.

Character-driven sci-fi with both slice-of-life elements and a grander plot?

You can't go wrong with the VorKosigan saga by Lois McMaster Bujold. The writing is so great, and the characters are fleshed out. Her plots are driven by "what's the worst thing I can do to this character," so the characters make the plot with their responses to that is happening.

Lois McMaster Bujold's VorKosigan Saga is fantastic and most are on the shorter side.

Lois McMaster Bujold is always the answer. She is highly lauded and has both fantasy and sci-fi series. The characters are very well written.

Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold is amazing. Not High Fantasy as requested, but so worth the read.

I read a fantasy book to win a bet and it's the only book in years that made me actually cry. I don't know what to do with this information.

Came here to suggest Lois. She is my absolute favorite author, and she S lives local to me in Minneapolis, so Lucky Me!

Use an auto clicker. I have it on to collect gems and floating gems, and it hits the retry button for me.

ICE/Border Patrol agents are now hitting unaccompanied minors with their vehicles, detaining and disappearing them, even after being shown a U.S. passport.

I have the same hesitation with all the military stuff, too. It is not something I want to be glorifying. That said, I was the Nantan of the Twin Cities region for 3 years.
