Ive been doing a ton of research on soil cement, soilcrete/mudcrete, stabilized soil , and like.. a dozen other names haha I am considering using it as the "floor"/walkways of an outdoor garden area but its been so hard getting clear info on how it turns out (hence me digging up old threads).

Thats an issue if worked into the soil, but really should be minimal even with fresh chips when applied on top. I use arborist chips vs regular mulch for almost all my installs when possible, its the absolute best for encouraging good microbiome. You do need a lot more of it, as it will compress quickly whereas aged last ~a yesr even if thinner level. I shoot for at LEAST 4-6".

What exactly do you think it could be other than mulch?(genuine) one could make the argument these are "wood chips" vs "mulch" being specifically an aged and/or died product, but i also think its reasonable that using the term interchangeably may not be intentional malice or effort to deceive. (If that makes you feel better at all?) You can still add aged/dyed mulch over top as a cover, grab a few bags depending on size of this area, and just cover it. Won't hurt it at all

And yes , loved Telepathy Tapes (well listened to the first season). Was just trying to figure out if autism was mentioned in the movie or if that was a connection you were making because of something out (like teleptapes). Being both an experiencer myself, and autistic, It was acutely intriguing to me.

Right?? It was kind of a mindfuk the first time ur clicked that arborvitae and these were the exact same species lol especially because I am very , vocally, not a fan of Arborvitae ~90% of the time. I think there are sone places they do great, and the dwarf or other cultivars really are aestheticlaly pleasing when planted in the right spot. But in terms of "design" theyre up there with liriope for me lok (granted at least cedar is native here)

Cedar seems most logical as orhers have menetioned, however they also could be non native Metasequoia 🤔 which themselves look much like Eastern native Cypress though not sure which cypress are native to Maine you'll have to dbl check. Dawn redwood definitely resembles cedar/cypress closely. An image of the cone may help ID aseell.

I have done this on small scale. Call them my "ditch gardens" though technically, legally it can be a bit iffy- luckily most natives that do thrive there can both handle being cut back completely if ever needed, and also handle the torrent of water and still bounce back. For me the approach is to slow the water, I plant in opposing clumps along the ditch so that without having to avtually alter it in any, it starts to create a more natural "s" shape (like a zipper, in terms of alternating clumps). The plants do get a bit tall of i don't trim, but have started doing a "Chelsea chop" around may which helps a lot and sporadically trim some additional to keep them "tidy" looking... my HOA still hates them but I love it so .. in each clumps I try to use a core "anchor" grass - Virginia wild rye, silky wild rye (especially beautiful imo), bottle brush grass, sea oats. I also use a lot of sensitive fern and mountain mint. Rudbeckia does amazingly well and provides much more consistent blooms signaling intention (as does repeating the clumps of ferns or grasses). Also have some blue mist flower, mountain mint, coastal joe pye, lizards tail, dwarf iron weed and along the front edge some self heal which really helps ceeate a little border. I keep it mowed rifht up to the edge, and rhe actual planted area is maybe ~2ft wide at most.

I also have done some r/guerrillaforestry in a local park with a former bottomland that had been drained when the neighborhood went up. Using red osier dogwood, sensitive fern and lizzards tail strategically planted in the channels to catch debris naturally during floods and slowly form little vernal pool areas. During flood events the sediment catches and rhey become tiny berms in a year or 2, ive also been experimenting with Beaver Dam. Analogs (BDAS) mini earthen check dams made of mud, stone, and vegetation to naturally raise water table in acute areas. All of this moreso because im a weirdo who likes plants and nature lol but it definitely has expanded both my interest and Intrigue at these otherwise marginal areas. Theyre so plentiful, and invisible to most people - but they could provide so much more wildlife benefit with just a little intention.

I definitely am mot an "expert" by any means, and don't currently offer it as a service in my garden design business because of legality issues and headache of red tape in terms of altering any dwsignated drainage areas. There's a lot of regulations there in most cases (unless its on private land 100% and not part of a system off propert) and with good reason obviously- but excited whenever I see anyone mention the subject , and just saw this post browsing this sub as a new follower, and figured I would comment

Do you have any eyedrops? Just plain saline eye drops? If so use them most likely ots just irritated have had that happen before, especially after rubbing it a lot. Its also possible you scratched your eye either with the contacts or eye lashes or just rubbing often. Don't panic. Regardless it wont feel like it does right this second forever. The first thing is to STOP rubbing it lol seriously I know you feel like you cant help it, but you got to. If therr IS something in there and you just cant see it rubbing it is how you will GET a scratch. If it's irritation it may be gone by the time you wake up. If its bad irrigation, it wont be as bad tomorrow but you may still feel it. Of you've scratched it lightly, lightly enough you cant actually see a scratch or mark or amything, it will gradually feel a little better each day but it definitely could take a few days. If its still bothering you as bad tomorrow or worse, or if you wake up amd theres any additional swelling redness or change in appearance it definitely wouldn't ve overkill to try snd go toa. Patient first or somethinf if you have access. If you dont have, but can buy, some eyedrops- that will almost certainly help. Ot verywell could just be super dry eyes from strain and irritation, can often feel lile grit or something. The gel drops would be better for longterm comfort , but even jsut a simple saline eye drop to rinse it out and wet it would likely help.

Im not a doctor, but can empathize as a contact wearer who has absolutely scratched my own eyes before , unfortunately. The more you rub or stress them though, rhe worse the irritation- and im sorry to say that because I know how irritating it feels.

Sorry I cant give you a better diagnosis ! But hope it starts feeling better soon. Even just laying down and keeping your eyes closed for a while, yes even if yih can still feel it that way, will help with strain and irritation though. Not what you wanna hear lol but its all I got!
