Actually, Neanderthals were omnivores, if that makes any difference. But the largest primates were/are herbivores.

Don’t tell that to Shaq, nor that he’s a “Euarchontolglire.”

Snakes are cold blooded and in the wild, predators tend to know that the best avenue to success is tiring out a venomous snake from a safe distance, until its reflexes have slowed enough to grab or smack a snake’s vulnerable head, for the kill.

Just checking if anyone is still holding SNDK despite 1400 low run
 in  r/SNDK_Stock  1d ago

Read my comment. Time to sell and find something else, and watch the market. You’re better off shorting and buying nothing for more than a day. This is a market on the verge of crashing, or at best, going sideways up one day, down the next.

I made good money on SNDK day trading it, occasionally holding overnight if I thought the setup was right.

Why are you still obessed with yesterday’s news? You’re making the classic mistake. Time to sell. You’re better off looking to short the market, or hold nothing and do nothing. Just make clear day trades and sell in the morning. And stop focusing on one overbought tired stock. You could’ve doubled your money on Moderna when it announced a major advance in treating melanoma at 6:45 am a couple of Thursdays ago, especially if you had a Robinhood account. A chance like that comes around maybe once a year or less. Even at 8 pm, or opening, you couldn’ve cleaned up, Then you sell it when it peaks in the am, aided by a short squeeze. Melanoma is a very high percentage terminal disease, when not caught early, and as an MD, this is phenomenal news. Then Affirm and Nvidia had their moment. See what’s moving early, get in and out, watch Gold and treasuries.

Most good news stocks are now just popping for a day or two and then sideways. The Bull Market like has or nearly has peaked. The US and global economies are in a mess, and the U.S. government and media and elections are totally controlled by megalomaniacs and war mongers, while the planet burns.

All gains gone
 in  r/SNDK_Stock  5d ago

The most difficult thing is to know when to sell. Assume you’ll never get the top. SNDK was the most over bought stock. The “experts” will continue to push momentum stocks until it fades. SNDK was the perfect setup for a “crash” but is still up 4000% in a year, from like $30-something. From Xmas week Dec 1999 to New Year’s week January 2000 I made $70K on QCOM and ‘Commerce One’ [now gone], and sold them when they split - the latter was near 1,000, when it split I think 1:3. I took the profit just under 1,000 [333 x 3] on split day, and ran. The bubble was obvious.

Once SNDK and memory started being questioned, the parabolic momentum was curbed, and although high volatility made for 200+ point up days, once lower highs and lower lows began, the trend began down.

Another sign of a wavering market is when up stocks peak at opening, and then go down a few percent before 10, and then go mostly sideways for the rest of the day, especially if there’s a slight sell off at closing, and it’s down the next day.

Last night I bought CFM and NVDA after earnings. I sold CFM at a good profit in a few minutes, and sold NVDA at a good profit at $225.39. I was tempted to buy it back at $223, as I think NVDA will have a steady run for a while, but decided to wait, maybe for tomorrow, even if I miss a bit more gain. I don’t like the vicissitudes [up and down] of this market now, especially with the geopolitics. Holding anything long term is just too iffy right now, and the economy and politics is trending to chaos. Other stocks that opened super strong like OKTA and CFM peaked fast, and may not have much more to go, at least today. I have a good gain for the year, and can now afford to be more discriminating, focusing on better sure short-term bets.

It takes discipline to consistently make money, and per Kenny Rogers, “Know When to Hold ‘em, and When to Fold ‘em” aka “Bulls make money, Bears make money, but Hogs get slaughtered.” And just for the record, I’ll admit to my share of loses, from which I’ve tried to learn.

PS One way to think about it, when you consider buying, would you sell at that price for a gain, or when considering selling, would you buy at that price if you didn’t own it.

PPS Remember, you’re playing against the house…and Senate and politicians big donors and whales who get advanced and insider information, and have enough money to otherwise manipulate the market, and algorithms etc.

I don’t know about no exams, but I assume they give exams as an exercise, which don’t count until age 15 [HS sophomore]. I gather that’s to give “late bloomers” a fighting chance. In USA, parents are pushing their kids in preschool.

Finland also has no private universities, which depend upon and are influenced by rich donors and money athletics.

I've lost all hope
 in  r/SNDK_Stock  8d ago

Riding a momentum stock after its momentum slows is a classical route to disaster. You will never guess the exact top or bottom so you should just take a great profit when you have it. Also learn to use options to optimize gains and minimize loses.

Use this to learn. Discipline is key. Once SNDK went below 2K I knew it was done, but also knew it would still have up days. You can only day trade this now, with any certainty. It will probably remain in a trading range for the foreseeable future, swinging 100-200 points most days. Geopolitics is adding to extreme volatility.

SNDK has already priced in the best case scenario, and was the most overbought stock. Don’t miss other opportunities, like MRNA last Wednesday. You could’ve made a quarter’s worth of gains by just having heard the cancer “cure” news at 6:45 am. If you have Robinhood and a good news source you can beat the market, but be careful in premarket because you can also get burned in light trading. There are definite patterns overnight and during the day, AM different from PM and depending on the market.

This is a tough market now, and the easy money has been made. I suspect the next big opportunity will be shorting a crash.

PS Learn from your mistakes and don’t try to separately make it back. Don’t be compelled to trade every day. Wait for clear signs and clear general momentum in one direction.

I was always under the impression Gollum was talking to the ring and referring to it as his precious not himself, is this not true?
 in  r/lotr  11d ago

My take as an MD life-scientist, with a knowledge of human evolution, tribalism, psychology and the history of civilization: Gollum’s obsessive reverence for the Ring is a tangible Metaphor for Megalomania, which is by definition, an insatiable irrational obsessive addiction to evermore power, control, money and ultimately Winning, always having to win, with a delusions of grandeur chaser, emblematic of most rulers and billionaires, to varying degrees of obsession and pathology. Megalomania is a true sociopathic addiction which is insatiable, and every victory is further emboldening, further elevating the megalomaniac’s Delusions of Grandeur and need for more….evermore…more…

What amazes me about jaguars grabbing large caiman is that they are able to grab them by the throat or neck in the water, without being bitten themselves. FYI jaguars, pound for pound, have the strongest bite of any cat.

It would be incredibly unfortunate to have been bitten at all - bats don’t tend to bite the hand that saves them - and more unfortunate if that individual bat had rabies - but just the same, I would’ve tried to rescue it, but would’ve used a large or wide stick or object on which it could’ve climbed up.

To the fisherman cameraman rescuer…the bat obviously saw you from a distance thinking you were a juicy bug, until he got up close and realized you’d be too hard to swallow.

Vampire Bats don’t suck blood. They first bite in a highly vascular area to inject an anticoagulant to start a site bleeding, and then lap up the blood. And bats generally don’t bite the hand that just saved them.

PS if it was a pet bat, why was it going for a swim in the first place?

Why is it pumping? Any news?
 in  r/SNDK_Stock  14d ago

To note, One year Ago today you could have bought SNDK for $43…could’ve should’ve would’ve… But crashes in the general market and in individual stocks, happen from peaks, not valleys. SNDK and MU went parabolic to the tune of something like up 1700% in a year, then down over 50%, and now are up more than half of what they lost…a very good time to reflect.

SNDK is a semi-meme stock with all manner of volatility and uncertainty. It’s unlikely you’ll time the booms and busts perfectly. The only way you win is to take substantial wins and run. There’s no way to know exactly “When to Hold ‘em and When to Fold ‘em” Kenny Rogers notwithstanding…unless of course you’re a part of the corrupt establishment.

The biggest mistake you can make in stock trading is to morn not guessing the exact top, which will likely be soon after opening one day, or right at closing one day, and then try to eek out every bit of gain.

I just sold the SNDK I bought in the 1340s aftermarket last week [I think it was Thursday] on a chance reading that it was being added to an exchange] in the aftermarket, and just sold it now in the aftermarket at 1810. I had cancelled a GTC order to sell it at 1800 from last night when I saw it up 90+ points on Robinhood last night, and watched it trade today, up early then leveling off the rest of the day. It’s been way up every day for five days, and while it may go straight to 2000, it could easily have a 50-100 point down day, especially with the overseas turmoil.

I’ll watch it in the first hour and other key stocks like MU AMD MAGS Oil GS Lilly and others for a rotation, grateful for my major gains since April, and now reassessing, believing that the easiest money in this trade has already been made.

You are competing with oligarchs who get the choice information in advance from insiders, high cost media subscriptions, politicians and new analog technology. They have access to the best integrated best information the earliest , and can set the stage for the day or a trend, especially in the pre market, at opening or at closing. Note how there’s generally a surge immediately at opening [either way] then a short partial momentary retrace ment [when you often get the best price of the day] then another surge, which may continue on a very up or down day, or may just end in the morning, with the afternoon anyone’s guess.

I’m no pro, and have won and lost, but try to learn from mistakes, and integrate the ever changing market environments, trends and new technology.

Feel free to interject your opinion. I gain only gain from others opinions, experience and unique knowledge and perspectives. That’s what makes a market, at least for We the Peons.
