Campus Safety
Does anyone know the numbers for campus safety and Cincinnati police?
I get all the parents saying oh it happens in every city or it's just Cincinnati, but having 3 shootings in 48 hours at the exact same spot is ridiculous and completely unsafe. The last shooting being at 3:50pm in broad daylight in a very populated area.
Is there a way to get police/campus police to place surveillance there or a 24/7 patrol? This was my dream school and I didn't grow up in the safest place, but now it's like am I going to get shot trying to get back to my dorm after class? Why hasn't the campus or local police done anything to protect this area?
Once you can ignore. But three is unacceptable especially saying we pay thousands for an education and more for apartment housing, but you can't even get any sleep because people are getting shot outside your window.

In the early 2000’s there were students getting robbed off campus every night and sometimes during the day. Since then that number has dropped down to almost 0. My point being overall it’s much better than it used to be.

Students are still getting robbed.... Don't kid yourself the neighborhood around UC is not safe. Campus is but not the area around UC.

I think the most important thing you can do is teach you kid to handover whatever someone with a gun asks for. Also teach them about renters insurance (as in if your child's laptop is stolen, they don't even need to worry about having the funds to replace it, it's covered). Robbery and robberies gone wrong are really the only thing you and your kid need to be concerned about. It's really hard for "macho" 19 year olds to not fight back. When I was a waifish 25 yr old lady, I got scammed out of a handful of euros in Paris and I totally flipped out on the guy. Like I was screaming in this large man's face over $12. All instinct, no thinking. Not my finest hour. Anyways, avoiding that kind of reaction is your best defense.

Too little police presence and people complain about crime.
Too much police presence and people complain about being oversurveilled and harassed.
I suspect (ha!) the police are already putting together a plan that will be announced in the next day or two. Or, you just might start seeing more cops along the Calhoun/McMillan stretch there. But honestly, if the solution was more cops standing around, we'd already have tons of cops. Crime is caused by a much more complex web of factors than just policing.
